  1. What did you do TO your Gladiator today? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Those steps a good product? I weigh about 255# and was thinking of buying a stepstool so I can get stuff off the roof rack easier but those look like a good solution as well. And not having to carry a stepstool around.
  2. What did you do TO your Gladiator today? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Got my Hella 4000 Halogen Rallye Lights mounted. Nect project is to buy the switches and wire them up. Think I'm going to go with VoSwitch.
  3. Trigger 6 shooter accessory control system feedback?

Bump. I'm looking at power control for my new lights. The idea of not running a wire through the firewall is appealing. So I've thought about the Trigger 6 Shooter Accesiry Switch System. But I haven't seen a great place to mount their switches. And I absolutely love the switch mount...
  4. Ground Plane Dumb Question

I wish you had asked me while I drilling throught it. I would have measured. But I drilled through the Freedom Top and not the back part so I can only speak to that. Be aware that there are parts of the roof that are single layer and other parts that appear like they might be double layer...
  5. Ground Plane Dumb Question

I'm not an electronics genius and figure tens if not 100's of thousands of HAM and CB folks have run coaxial cables in their cars/trucks without any problems by just running the cable so this wasn't about building a better electronic mousetrap. I just wanted to build it and then over the years...
  6. Ground Plane Dumb Question

Aluminum tubing. Not purposed conduit. Keeps the coax from sagging and rubbing. If you run the antenna cable under the crossbars and hang it from hangers it gets pretty close to the roof. Then if you tighten that up to keep it off the roof you get force at each support where the wire has to...
  7. Ground Plane Dumb Question

Also I built hatches at each antenna mount and over the pass throughs in the roof so that if I needed to work on something in those areas I could remove the hatch and access the area. The pass throughs have not leaked even in the open and in heavy rain but if they do I'd like to be able to try...
  8. Ground Plane Dumb Question

So I finally got the major parts of my ground plane project finished. As noted prior this will serve as a ground plane for 1/4 wave antennas for a GMRS radio and another 2 meter/VHF radio. The roofrack will also function as a roof rack if needed and the ground plane will act as shade for the...
  9. What did you do TO your Gladiator today? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

It was a couple of weeks ago but I got Bridgestone 285/70r17 tires mounted. Slight drop in gas mileage. Whole huge drop in road noise. My wife asked what the sound was as we were driving down the highway and I told her wind noise. She never noticed it before with all the noise the stock...
  10. Sirius/Satellite Antenna

No, it's a compression fitting. The connector on the Sirius antenna cable was a little on the large side but I jimmied it through the rubber seal and since it required a 3mm hole in the seal was slightly large for a 2.5 mm wire I had put shrink wrap on the wire to get it to 3mm to make a tight...
  11. Sirius/Satellite Antenna

I guess I could have connected the antenna directly to the head unit but this was easier and easier to replace if I have a problem. I'm a pretty bug dude and I hate squeezing into the footweels to work behind the dash. Working at the roof/ceiling was just nicer. And since I was going to drill...
  12. Sirius/Satellite Antenna

Nothing has leaked so far. It was a longer process making backing plates for the glands so that I didn't have to rely on screws in fiberglass to hold them on. They are backed with rubber washers and sealed around the bolt holes with silicone as well.
  13. Sirius/Satellite Antenna

I disconnected the old satellite antenna at the yellow plug like in the other guys thread. I ran it behind the fascia of the sound bar, wrapped the extra length of cord around two pillars in the side fascia of the sound bar and along the covering on top of the door. At the door I ran it onto...
  14. Sirius/Satellite Antenna

I know the Sirius antenna in a modern Jeep is combined or combinable with the antenna for GPS. It says so in the ads. I just don't see that stated in the ads for aftermarket antennas so I assumed they wouldn't have the GPS function. But mine seems to be functioning. I'm not an antenna guy so...
  15. Sirius/Satellite Antenna

So the good news is I hooked up my new Sirius antenna. And it worked fine. Also unexpectedly my truck's navigation system also worked fine. Either the antenna I bought is GPS satellite capable or the navigation system has a different antenna. In any case I bought it for Sirius radio so it's...
  16. Sirius/Satellite Antenna

Years ago I used to be on Above Top Secret which is dedicated to the tin foil hat crowd. It's not that I don't believe in all that stuff anymore it's just that I realized in the big scheme of things the government would really have no interest/reason to care where I go. I'm pretty darn boring...
  17. Sirius/Satellite Antenna

I don't use the GPS so it didn't play into my choice of antenna. I don't think my antenna will pick up GPS. If that is a concern you can get the MOPAR SiruisXM/GPS antenna with cable for about $100. If it ends up doing something wonky without the GPS antenna (I couldn't guess what but with...
  18. Sirius/Satellite Antenna

Here's the thread accessing the cable to the antenna. https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/sirius-xm-antenna-relocation-upgrade.65286/
  19. Sirius/Satellite Antenna

I'm about to go through this. From another thread it seemed the best thing to do was to leave the antenna in place and put another antenna somewhere. Just unplug the old antenna and plug the new one in. I haven't connected it yet but here is my new antenna. But you can do the unplugging...
  20. Stickers and decal pics!

I am, indeed, a child of the sixties and seventies.
