Update to my death wobble situation: A few days ago I finally got around to installing my new components. I upgraded from Fox 2.0 to 2.5 front shocks. I also upgraded my steering stabilizer to the Fox ATS 2.0. I have it set to the middle of the road stiffness to start with. My death wobble...
Agree and disagree, depending on the situation. A bone stock Jeep with absolutely no modifications which is experiencing death wobble… I agree with you. Putting a beefier stabilizer on a stock Jeep is definitely masking some sort of issue. A Jeep with a 3” lift and 38” tires like mine… I...
This is probably one of the best death wobble videos out there. Everything I would suggest to you is contained in this video. I’m convinced that I just need a beefier steering stabilizer due to my 38” tires. I’m installing that this weekend and will post an update after a test drive.
Sure did, that was the first thing we did. He also put a pry bar under every possible connection and everything was super tight. Ball joints, linkage, bushings, everything.
I just ordered the Fox ATS stabilizer and I’m fairly certain that will solve my issue as well. I also have a theory. This wobble issue only returned when the weather got colder. Seems like the colder it is, the worse the wobble. What material in the steering system would be affected by...
I have the Clayton 2.5 Overland + kit which came with a high quality, adjustable track bar. Checked bushings yesterday and they’re perfect with no play in the linkage whatsoever. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Maybe, but the shock needs to be replaced regardless. I’m also going to purchase the Fox ATS steering stabilizer, since I’ve heard so many good things about it. That was also his suggestion. This guy who worked on my Jeep today was a walking textbook of information, and has over 30 years of...
Well, I did once and didn’t work out. My kids were terrified so had to turn back, lol. Maybe someday. Anyone have opinions about Fox shocks vs Falcon?
Well I had my alignment today and it went great. Caster was off (6.6), brought it down to 5.5, which is what Clayton specifies. Toe was way off so brought it to proper specs for my setup. Tires were a few oz off on every one, especially the fronts. After we did all that, we were sure it was...
Jeep has 22k miles. Lift has been installed for about 15,000 miles so I know it’s not a bushing issue. Going to spend some time with an expert tomorrow so I’m looking forward to digging into things. I’ll keep you posted on what we find.
Really great information from everyone, thank you. One thing that I’ve never heard of which was stated in one of the death wobble instructional videos, is that the track bar and drag link must be parallel to each other. Going to take a look at that. Also, I’ve been running 30psi in my 38’s. What...
You may be correct, and I anticipated having to upgrade components. Just need to know exactly where to start. I’m assuming ball joints are a good choice.
Yes, did rims. Went with a 0 offset as I don’t like tires which poke out too much. Had to adjust steering stops but that’s all. They fit perfectly.

Yes see original post. Clayton 2.5” Overland +, and now Falken Wildpeak 38x13.5’s. Fox 2.0 front and rear. That’s all so far. I’m open to upgrading components to compensate for changes. Just don’t want to throw parts at it without knowing what’s wrong.
That just happened to be at a slower speed, since I didn’t do any highway driving today. Last month at 73mph, I hit a bump and experienced a violent wobble in the steering. Had to pull over and it continued down to 25mph. Drove the rest of the way home at 65mph and it never happened again. Drove...
Well today was a bad day. Was a little colder, and I experienced the worst day of death wobble so far. Drove to a different alignment shop and they’re hooking me up with an old-timer who’s been doing alignments for 25 years. They seem to think he’ll be able to figure it out. The appointment is...
I upgraded my tires to 38’s, also wanting to eliminate tires as a culprit. Did not make a difference. Also re-tightened track bar and all suspension components. Track bar is new so the bushing is good. Also have been in touch with Clayton and have tried everything they’ve suggested.
My steering wobble issues continue. Realized that my caster was off, because after I did the 2.5” lift the alignment shop set the caster to factory setting. Should be 5.5 degrees according to Clayton. So had another alignment done, believing that I had figured out the issue. It did not fix it...
