Thanks to everyone for all the information - your contributions were a great introduction to the Jeep community. I wish I could send you all the commission that the salesman will be getting; you have done more to sell me on getting a Jeep than he has!
Wow that is quite a trip! Glad to hear that it went so well. I have used snow tires for the last 8 years and they make such a difference, can't imagine what they would be like with 4wd. I will have to look into the Selec-Trac more and what it would take to get that option. What is the...
Thanks, I should take another look at the used options. Last time I saw a lot of "lemon" buy back vehicles and got scared away from the used market. But it is worth another look.
I got the idea from this thread on the JL forum: 2 Door half doors | Page 5 | Jeep Wrangler Forums (JL / JLU) - Rubicon, Sahara, Sport, 4xe, 392 - JLwranglerforums.com
My understanding is that the half doors only come with the power locks and mirrors. Ordering this option forces the switches...
Thanks for making me think about this more. I think I will be ok putting the skis in diagonally, the box is 60" x 56" with a diagonal of 82". Our longest skis are 78". I will bring a few pairs to the dealer and make sure the wheel wells don't cause an unexpected problem.
I think my last real...
They are "skinny" skis (cross country) and fit diagonally across the bed, which is how I carry them in the back of our minivan. I have a roof top ski box, and I ended up not using it because it can't go through the car wash, and I don't plan ahead well enough to take it off before heading out...
Thanks for all the feedback! Looks like common themes are:
Consider the Diesel - I will look into this further
Factory Aux Switches - Not available on the Willy's but I will make a Sport configuration to compare
Soft Top - Works in the winter, but hardtop is probably better
Add more amenities...
I am favoring the Willy's sport over other models because I am trying to keep the cost down and felt that it was less expensive to choose the Willy's Sport than to add the limited slip, aluminum rims, off road tires, and rock sliders to the sport. I also really like the look of the color...
Thanks Kris and Vincent - Glad to hear a couple voices saying the soft top works in the winter. The soft top I drove was a base sport with automatic transmission. It had the stock all season tires which were very quiet. Does the hardtop do a better job blocking out road noise from more...
Thanks for the reply - I did test drive a Gladiator with a soft top and thought it was fine on the highway and the kids are excited about being able to open it up during the summer. The biggest negative I saw was the inability to mount a roof rack for our canoe and the lack of a rear window...
Hi!
I am purchasing my first Jeep and need some help to choose the configuration best suited to my needs. Thanks in advance for your patience with someone new to Jeep's and off roading.
My uses for the vehicle are:
1. I still have to drive to work - ~20mile commute each way, mostly highway...
