This is some great information. Thanks Dave. I don't understand it but it seems to be working for all the members that have tried it. For those that don't feel like clicking on the link: Using a USB-A to C adapter and a USB-C to Lightning cable seems to completely fix the connection drop issues.

The USB port on the dash works with no issues. I'm just trying to see what the discrepancy between the dash port and the center console port is with all else being equal. Not a huge issue, but I'd rather have that cable resting inside the center console.
