This is the debate I have with myself pretty much weekly at this point. I have thought about just doing an EGR delete and leaving the DPF/DEF system as the exhaust gas recirculating is what I presume is doing all the damage to the internals. Deleting the EGR + running a tuned ECU is pretty easy...
I live in a place where we have zero emissions enforcement for non-commercial vehicles. The moment the engine warranty is up, it all will be magically gone :) Just dont want to void the warranty on the engine by doing that, only a few more years thankfully.
It does act as a mild exhaust brake...
I'm not super familiar with modern diesels, but from what they were explaining to me. Its a valve that allows backpressure to build up for the EGR system. Its right after the turbo and before the DPF, so it open/closes depending on whether it wants to recirculate the gasses or pass it through...
Interesting stuff. Just spoke to the dealership, its the butterfly valve in the exhaust sticking. Its all under warranty. Another crappy emissions part that will eventually fail.
That is some awesome info, I appreciate it. A weird thing is the moment you press the start/stop button to turn it off... it squeaks really loud, and then up to 10-15 seconds later it squeaks one more time. I was parked at a store and was almost at the door and heard it squeak again which was...
Dealership has it now so we'll see what it is. Buddy a mine is a heavy diesel mechanic and mentioned it sounds like the actuator on the turbo since it squeaks a few seconds after the engine is off entirely and you can hear it echoing through the exhaust, but we will see what they say.
I did...
Good morning folks,
Been a while since I've been on this forum as life has been busy (isn't that the usual). I haven't been able to make much progress on the Gladiator project lately, but I started getting an odd squeaking on acceleration once it's warmed up. It also squeaks again after turning...
100%! I've been looking for an auxiliary tank for the diesel... would love one. May just end up getting one custom fabricated. Building my 21 JT Rubicon into an overlander, and I want to maximize the space in the bed, and don't want to stick jerry cans all over the side of the vehicle.
The Baja Boss ATs show minimum 8" rim for their 37x12.50s, and when I spoke to a few shops to get them mounted they wouldnt touch the stock rim on 12.5s. Also would you not need 1-1.5" spacers on the stock Rubicon rims to not rub? I know in Canada good spacers will run you $400-500 for a set and...
Appreciate the response, and thanks for the info. I'll be going up to 40s and I don't trust the factory axles to hold that kind of mass. I wheel frequently with a good mixture of rocks and overlanding, so want that extra insurance of the 60s.
The rims are temporary, though I do love the look...
Hey folks!
I hope everyone is having a lovely day. While I do most of my wrenching, one area I always seem to second guess myself is tires/rims and how the offset and backspace work. I'm planning on doing some Dana 60s to my Gladiator, and have some 37x12.50R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs...
Sorry to tell you, but nothing will change getting blown around in the wind unless you plan on slamming your Jeep. Even then... it's a square on wheels, with a bed which makes it even worse.
You will forever get blown around in the wind in a Jeep, it's a Jeep thing.
This is normal. Mopar came out with a service bulletin to address this as many were complaining, why this isn't in the service manual I do not know... They should of just included it..
Your diesel should be making this noise on shutdown.
Don't think it's a bashing session... people need to be aware of the products to avoid. The Oracle JT tail light issue isn't a one-off, there's tons and tons of videos online of people having non-stop issues with these. Pretty much every off-road YouTuber I watch has had issues with them as well...
These tail lights are notorious for failing, pretty much everyone I know who's had these have swapped them out after multiple failures. Not worth having to warranty them multiple times, especially for the cost of these.
I like Oracle, and use other lights from them... but these JT Gladiator...
If you're not wheeling it, you shouldn't need hydro steering. Do the Apex steering boost upgrade and that should be enough on-road. Might need to do a steering brace as well.
Looks great!
A few recommendations... went from a Wrangler to a JT recently and I'm just east of Toronto, where there is crazy high vehicle theft rates and the useless government to boot.
1. Install a hood lock (The bolt or latches. I did both, just for shits and giggles. They're relatively cheap)
2. Move...
