  1. What does a Jeep Gladiator have in common with a Harley Davidson?

I've had two Wranglers, a Gladiator, a Harley FLH bagger, and a LowRider. What do they all have in common? Endless ENDLESS modification possibilities and so many ways to personalize them and make them unique to your own tastes. The other thing they have in common is that for too many years they...
  2. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

As the O.P. for this thread, I'm liking the change of direction and tone in the last few days. So, although I'd bowed out, I'll join with ShadowsPapa and rejoin the thread. My JT is a 2021 Willys 3.6L, produced in March 2021. It does NOT have the reinforcing bracket, and the bend/buckle...
  3. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

I'm not sure I "need" permission, but this thread has become very acrimonious and I choose to let them weigh in, or not, as is their personal choice. I have learned the hard way that there are enough self-appointed arbiters of technical truth on this forum (who haven't disclosed their own...
  4. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

I said I didn't have permission. I didn't say they wouldn't give it. (back to that point about people having other things to do than satisfy you)
  5. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

PSS the second shop is Tribe-16 in the Dallas area. I don't have permission to use the 3rd shop's name. PSSS it was also qualified engineers that said not-very-many-people would die from the fire-prone Ford Pinto. So again, spare me the superior accusations and insinuation just because I can't...
  6. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

PS, it was highly qualified engineers that said it was okay to fly the shuttle that day. That didn't work out so good either.
  7. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

I fail to see how attacking me personally stops you from contacting Jerry at Shift Autowerks, who started this whole freaking debate, and ask him all your techno-babble questions. I appreciate that you know a great deal about the engineering involved with this stuff (and I mean I really do...
  8. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

One is Shift Autowerks in Southern California. I name them because they are profiled in the original video and I contacted Jerry directly for some of his observations. I will not name the other two without their permission.

You are zeroing in on it - the failure in mine is at the curve where the bump stops are mounted, quite close to the shock mount. And from what the shop(s) have said, that is pretty much where all the failures they've seen are.
  10. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

I was sort of wondering the same thing. However the shop here in Texas also reported these issues. While the terrain here in north Texas is not the same as just east of San Diego, there are similarities. Additionally, we're a long ways from most public lands here and we have few opportunities...
  11. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

I'd be interested as well. No, I don't have those drawings, but using your drawings, the failure in mine occurred at approximately the X-6 reference point, or just behind it, where the frame member curves to make room for the bump-stop mount. In my very imprecise way of saying it, look at where...
  12. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

Fair enough - and here is my response: 1) I saw the video from TrailRecon and it alarmed me. 2) I performed the manual "finger" test described and felt something that wasn't right. 3) I had it checked by a professional, certified shop, who determined it was "out of true". 4) that same shop and...
  13. Bent Frame

Autowerx stated that the OEM inserted a "weakness" when they modified the frame to create a mounting location for the bump-stops. What used to be straight now has a bit of a curve in order to mount the bump-stop, and this is the weak point is bending. Interesting that you mention the Mojave as...
  14. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

Towing on pavement at just over 50% of rated tow and load capacity is not "misuse".
  15. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

Probably is "bullet proof" as a preventative measure, but once the frame has been bent or cracked it would be hard to trust it again.
  16. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

That's a fair point and I can't speak for anyone else's driving/loading behavior. For myself I have not towed my trailer off-road at all. Period. The towed weight never exceeded about 3,500 lbs, and the tongue weight never exceeded about 300 pounds. Since my stock Willys (with tow package) is...
  17. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

The ones from the shop in CA are being patented and will be mass produced for sale starting in June(ish) at shiftautowerx.com. I'm not sure whether they are welded, bolted, or both (from the video it looks like there is welding involved). The shop that is fixing mine fabs them as required and...
  18. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

I would like to add for clarity and specificity: 1) The pic I referenced at the beginning of my thread was of a Mojave that was towing and going fast. 2) I never said that I could see a deformity by gauging the distance between the cab and the bed. I said I performed the inspection that Jerry...
  19. Bent Frames - Big Thing or isolated?

One of the ones I saw was a Mojave, one was Rubi, and the other a Sport. Mine is a Willys. I was also told by the shop that the bracket developed by Jeep is only for Mojaves - but I do not know if that is accurate or not.
