So i just finished installing my new receiver since my gladiator did not come with it. Just wanted to give a few tips and tricks to help anyone else who plans on doing it.

I went with the factory Mopar hitch.

Overall it is very simple to do if you are slightly handy.

First you DO NOT have to remove the spare tire. Every video I watch said to remove it but it doesn't get in the way at all.

There are a couple of wires that you needs to unclip and pull out where it clips to the frame.

I removed the bumper which is 2 bolts under the license plate and 4 nuts, 2 on each side where it connects. Again very easy todo with a 16mm socket.

Once the bumper is removed I would recommend loosening the bolts that hold your tow hooks in place, this way you have leverage.

After that I went and loosened all of the bolts that hold the existing bracket to the frame. 4 on each side. I placed a large cooler with a 2x4 to prop it up while i took those 4 bolts out.

Remove the 2 clips from the old mount where it connects behind the bumper and move those on to the new receiver.

Getting the new hitch in place with 1 person is tricky but i was able to do it. I used the same cooler and manipulated it in to place, putting 1 of the bolts in to hold it in place while i put the other in.

I reinstalled the tow hooks and cranked them down.

I finger tightened everything to get it where it needed to be and then tightened the 4 bolts down.

I reattached the bumper, only finger tightening until all was in place then i cranked them down.

Reattached all of the wire hookups and re-clipped them to the frame.

All set. Like I said really easy to do. it took me about an hour and 15 minutes. The dealer quoted me 3 hours and a total of $363 to install it.

How long did it take for the Mopar hitch to arrive once ordered? I need to do the same with my Rubicon.

I did the exact same thing with the genuine Mopar class IV receiver. No spare removal required. It was not available due to parts shortage when I placed my order. Saved a few bucks too. Worked out well and a piece of cake! ;)

I ordered it from my local dealer and it came in the next day. I was going to order it online but shipping was crazy expensive. The part cost me $267 with tax.

Well...you saved a few bucks because you didn't buy the fan the tow package comes with. Watch temps when towing heavy. It also comes with a more powerful alternator to run said fan. You might have that if you have factory aux switches.

No Aux switches either. Another option not available (or would have significantly delayed my order). I only tow 2,500 pounds max anyway and that is very seldom. Never had any kind of a temp issue.

Being honest, I don't care for how the JT handles even towing at that weight. Especially on a windy day. Maybe it's the softer Mojave suspension. If I had to rely on a truck for towing duty on a regular basis, I would have kept my Ram 1500.

I just ordered my Mopar Class IV receiver from Amazon, should be delivered in a couple days. I had originally ordered cheaper Curt Class 3 hitch receiver and sent it back the next day after spending 30 minutes with a power drill and bore brush trying to clean the threads. Never did get the bolt to seat more than 2 threads.

Anyone know if the paint in the threads is an issue with the Mopar set? Also, should I use threadless? Thanks in advance!

I had no issue at all. The bolts went right through.
