In their fantasy land.

Not sure what they are going to do, they could go the Ramcharger router. Put the 2.0 in as a generator only. Could go Hurricane 3.0, could drop in some motor in development we don't know about.

OR.........

Do what we all know Stellantis is good at, shove their head up their backside and keep putting the 3.6 in it for another 5+ years.

It's not. The only thing confirmed is the commitment in the union contract for how long the Gladiator would be produced. Other than the 4xe addition, I anticipate no changes to the engine and drive train for some time.

I'm really curious as to how compatible a small displacement turbo engine is with predictable / consistent throttle inputs during technical off-roading. And how compatible is such an engine with wheel / tire upgrades? Won't it be constantly running on boost once you add some inches to the factory tire size?

Another monetizing on 100% pure speculation and guess-work. Even the REAL auto magazines are speculating - and if you read very carefully, you'll see it's all "we hope" or "we think this would work" types of stuff.

It's just a video to get clicks and money. Anyone can speculate - they have zero inside information. Nothing is known.

If the hurricane is an option it will be a top trim $80-90k gladiator and ain’t no way I’d pay that for a jeep. I think it would be a great engine for the gladiator but no way. For that kind of cash I’d be more interested in the raptor Bronco which is equally ridiculous in price or the raptor ranger which is better priced.

I wonder who the heck wrote that article - I gotta look into their background and experience because this bit here is a bit of a laugh -

The exhaust valves are sodium filled and all valves are opened using a hydraulically adjusted lash system with roller finger followers. If you're familiar with older Jeep I-6s, this means the cams don't act directly on the valve but on the fingers that push the valves down to open them.

I can't think of any engine where the cam acted directly on the valve.
Seriously, everything I'm familiar with was either push rod and rocker, or it was cam and follower.
"Roller fingers" aren't new, either. They've been around on rocker arms and followers for many years. I have roller rocker arms on my 4.0 - the arm pivots on rollers and the tip of the rocker arm runs across the valve stem on a small roller to reduce friction and wear.
Sodium valves - don't mess around with them. That's also an old-school thing.

This is also standard fare for the 3.6 -

The oil pump not only varies its pressure but also its displacement and feeds as the main lubrication of the engine. Also tied into the oil system are oil squirters that aid in piston cooling

The 3.6 oil pump is variable displacement and they switch oil pressure regulation depending on the mode the pump is in. 3.6 has piston oil squirters (as did many engines over the past few decades)

Too bad they aren't offering something with some mpg AND power.
If Jeep were to actually use these in the JT - and so far there's no real evidence - we'd see our mpg ratings, and real-world mpg, drop by a lot.
You'd get your V8 power - along with V8 economy.

Isn’t the 4xe based on the 2.0 turbo engine? Maybe that Is where they are getting that particular piece of information from?

The hurricane engine, I still don’t expect to see in the gladiator. Ever. The 4 door wrangler, maybe, but not in the gladiator. I am sure that the actual sales volume wouldn’t be worth paying for the crash rating from the NHSA

The 4xe Wrangler uses the smaller turbo engine. To maintain towing ratings, they will have to stick with the V6, or go with something better, which doesn't seem very likely. The Ecodiesel showed that the platform struggles to remove heat. I don't see any new engine options until the next major refresh and body modification.
