I'm ready to order wheels and tires, I've always run a same size matching spare on my jeeps, but not always on my trucks... this ti.e if I go 5 I need to do 5 wheels too and another tire pressure sensor I presume? I rotate with oil changes. 4 is 20 min, 5 will be longer... is there an issue running a mismatched spare on the front temporarily? Antecdotal data suggest there is on some 4wd/and vehicles but I dont think there should be with this vehicle...

Thoughts?

I never do a 5 wheel rotation. Since tires have about a 10 year life span (7 years according to the tire manufacturers), it probably is a good idea to do it, since you will always have a fresh spare... but, here is my thought process anyway...

If I go with 37" tires, which I currently plan to do, I will buy a "throw away" 18" rim so I can go with 37"x11.5x18 spare tire and reduce the amount the spare tire protrudes from under the truck -- especially, since 37" tires barely, or do not fit between the frame rails. For the 4 tires on the truck, I will go with nice rims and the standard -- 37"x12.5x17 size....

Maybe, If I went with 35" tires, I would do something similar and there is no need for an 18" spare tire rim... I would use the existing spare tire rim, put on a 35x11.5x17 tire - again to reduce the amount of spare tire protrudes under the truck --, and put on four 35x12.5x17 tires with new rims on the truck...

Regarding mismatched tire sizes --- if you are running "open diffs" front and back (ie. no limited slip rear) on straight axles like the JT, then, low speed travel with slightly mismatched sizes will not hurt anything. If you are off-road, and If you have 35" tires and you put on a 33" spare, then, pump up the 33" tire to 40 psi, and deflate the 35" tires to 20 psi. This will help even out the sizes, but, I still would not go over 35 mph with this.
