$78,100 Gladiator at Mecum

There was a Gobi Overland at Dallas' Mecum Auction this weekend which went for $78,100. It had a Fishbone utility rack, a Smittybilt tent, DV8 roof rack, aftermarket bumpers, winch, Fox shocks, and a Yeti cooler and Honda generator. 5,800 miles. I would have sold mine to the winning bidder for a few dollars less than that and my Honda generator is camo colored.

You have the detail sheet? Impossible to really understand a Mecum price without the full list of details. Clearly it had additions that warranted that price.

I listed the items shown on Mecums' highlight sheet, except for the high intensity lighting, the DV8 bed mount tire rack, tubular Nerf bars, and the 37" toys Open Country M/T. I did not go through and price all the items listed, but do you think they would total over $30,000? They did not list factory items other than Overland "bundle", and automatic transmission.

Don't use Mecum pricing for anything that makes sense. I'm currently seeing 20/21 model Wranglers and Gladiators bringing thousands over MSRP at dealer auto auctions.

Exactly. You have to remember that there are people at the auctions with a lot of disposable income, and they're not afraid to use it. So, there are a few guys there to buy collector cars and the Gladiator catches their eye. They have to arrange shipping anyway, so why not add 1 more vehicle to the list. Next thing you know, the price gets a little inflated.

I know Carvana and CarMax tend to have vehicles way over MSRP at the moment, you can get a nicely used 2020 Galdiator with 20k miles on the clock for $4,000 over MSRP last I checked.

This site looks to be more of a 'legal tax evasion vehicle' though. Hopefully one day, I make enough money that I have to overpay on my own stuff to avoid paying the government as much as possible.

I love Carvana, CarMax and several other dealers that have been paying me sticker or over for vehicles. The current problem with chips and now other components is getting worse than actually better. So the old supply vs demand is very real now.
