Accident on I 5

So headed down the road. At about 730pm I see bad traffic up ahead about 1/4 mile. Then right in front of me there is a Honda Civic stopped dead in the fast lane he had apparently rear ended a Lexus No flashers on. At least 150 yards of clear lane in front. Stomped on the brakes as hard as possible but to no avail I hit him hard enough to pop open his trunk. I thought damage would be worse than it was on my truck but aside from the plastic bump stop on the steel bumper and a lot of white paint scraped on it. There doesn’t appear to be much damage. Glad to say everyone seemed ok kudos to the chp for their polite and efficient handling of it all. The accident up ahead of mine was apparent much worse.
