So I ordered the Mopar Aux switches and got them yesterday. All excited to install and 1 of the first steps is to remove the ground from the body and this happens! Bolt just broke off! What the f***ing f***?!?! Only using a small 1/4" socket and I didn't eat any Wheaties today. Now what

it looks like you still have a LITTLE thread left there...

The bolt adjacent to it looks exactly the same. Perhaps you can just use that one.

That's a bummer. Is there any reason you couldn't use the ground post next to it? Maybe wire wheel some of the paint off before backing the nut off.

does that bolt go straight through or is it welded there? if it goes through just remove it from the other side and replace. if welded than i would grind it down to flat and see if you can get a new one welded in its place and get some touch up paint to cover up the bare metal. in the mean time use the other bolt to the right.

You know you have to activate those switches right? They are not plug and play to interface into the stereo.

Can't speak for your vehicle, but mine has quite a number of these on the passenger side.. I'd just use another one.

That said.. wondering if the paint would have bound it up this much?

If so, maybe put a few drops of acetone on the bolt before removing it.. just to soften up that paint on it?

(Just remembering some of the things we used to have to do, when prepping cars for audio competitions.. and acetone was commonly used for paint removal in some areas.)

Ouch. First cut is always the deepest according to some song I won't ever admit to singing when alone IRL.

Maybe put the first nut back on, thread the broken part of the bolt into the nut with some thread locker, and put another nut on top of it? It won't be a permanent fix, but it will at least keep the post in place.

There are literally a hundred places that you can ground to. Any decent spot on the body without paint is a good point.
