America's Nasty Diesel Fuel Keeps Ruining Bosch Fuel Pumps
NHTSA is upgrading its investigation into high-pressure fuel pump failures in Ram, Jeep, and BMW diesel models.

"" Those Ram models were prone to exhibiting stalling or loss of power, attributed to malfunctions in the high-pressure fuel pump. And along with upgrading the investigation to an “engineering analysis” — another step on the path to a full recall — NHTSA added a bunch of other vehicles to the list: diesel-powered 2014 through 2022 Ram 1500s, 2021-2022 Jeep Gladiators, 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokees, 2020-2022 Jeep Wranglers, as well as diesel-powered BMW 3-series, 5-series, and X3 models from 2014 through 2018. Automotive News reports that as many as 490,000 vehicles could be affected if the engineering analysis is expanded into a full recall"".

It's the 4.3 that has issues cuz it only has two Pistons the 3.2 has three Pistons remember the 4.3 has two Pistons but has rollers at the bottoms of the cups and if they are not running ultra low sulfur diesel they will have issues and it will basically not have enough or the molecules ain't small enough for lubrication of the rollers on the high pressure pumps. 4.3 cups have rollers and the 3.2 has no rollers it's a flat faced cup so the cup can spin all day long and never have an issue with the roller going sideways cuz it doesn't have rollers the 4.3 has cups and rollers at the bottom the issue with that is they never put a keyway on a cup to keep the cup from spinning

Actually, that would be on Bosch.

The specs for diesel fuel aren't hidden, easy to get.

Bosch designed a pump to suit the Euro diesel spec knowing full well it wouldn't stand up to diesel from the States. Then they knowingly sold those fuel pumps to manufacturers without first informing them that they were built to Euro specs.

Not U.S. fuel manufacturers fault, partially vehicle manufacturers fault for not verifying the fuel pumps would function correctly in the States, fully Bosch's fault for not being up front with the specs their fuel pumps were built to.

Does that mean that I don't have to worry about my fuel pump?

If I had the Eco Diesel in my Jeep, and with it's known issues of pump failures, there is no way that I would run it without adding some sort of lubricity additive to the fuel at every fill up.

Since the nation wide switch to the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel mandated by the ass hat's at the EPA several years ago, premature injector pump failures have been an ever increasing issue with all diesel vehicles.

The Ultra Low Sulfur fuel has a drastically reduced lubrication rating compared to what was previously produced. This causes excessive internal wear on injector pumps, and increased failure rates.

After replacing the injector pump on my 2001 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel a couple years ago, I asked the company that supplied it what additive they recommended to use to help it have a long healthy life.
They specified Stanadyne Diesel Fuel Additive Performance Formula. It is a highly concentrated additive for use in all seasons. It is specially formulated for use with Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel & will not cause any damage to the DEF systems on newer diesels.

I have been ordering it through my local O'Reilly's so there are so shipping costs, and arrives for pick up in a day or so.
The 64oz. size treats 250 gallons of fuel.

Just a thought for what it's worth.

The gentleman you quoted is in Germany. Which means the fuel pump was designed for his fuel supply.
Not saying what you're recommending won't benefit him also.

Guess I didn't notice his location on his post.

Still wouldn't be a bad idea to add some sort of lubricity additive at each fill up given the failure rates & poor history of the injector pump used on these Eco Diesels no matter where in the world you are located.
