I've been thinking about power steps for a while, but obviously one is more expensive than the other.

Based off how it works, price, and durability which one would you choose?

AMP. Have them on my JK now. Great and sturdy. Have been on for 5+ years with zero issues.
Plan to add them to my 2021 JTR diesel, when they become available.

So my biggest fear I guess would be if the electronic components ever fail.

RSE. I put on the AMP steps they don’t look too great In my opinion. Look like pontoons and they don’t follow the curves of the Jeep,
the rear stick out and you can see the pinch seam. Just ordered my RSE.

If you're not crawling, go with the Amps. I just installed the Powerstep XLs on my Glady and they look great. I agree with the "pontoon" assessment above on the non-XL versions but with the XL, they close into a rail-like structure so look more like the stock Rubi rails. Still not a crawler but not the pontoon look either (see pics). As far as the electronic component concerns, the Amps have 5yr/60,000 mile warranty.

When I was shopping, I really liked the RSE steps but was concerned about the narrow step...the 6" wide step on the Amps was better for my family and their needs. Also, after price matching, the Amps were down to ~$1650 - significantly less than the best price I could find on the RSE. As far as the Aries are concerned, they seemed a bit unproven to me so I didn't consider them much.

Finally, installation of the Amps was okay - not easy but not too tough. Biggest issue was mediocre instructions...like most things, once you figure it out, it's pretty obvious - prior to that, it can be a bit confusing. I spent a fair amount of time in the realm of confusing. Installing a second set would be much easier. :like: You definitely will need a second set of hands.

Just my $.02...good luck on your search. In the end, you'll like your new steps whatever you choose!

Try an RSE and AMP XL? That'd sure be a good way to choose...

I’m returning the one that I don’t like. Lol
I assume you're just mounting to check to looks? No way you're going through all the wiring pain as well. It this is correct, you'll be missing one of the most important parts - how do you like the "steps". Also, with the Amps, you likely won't be able to install the step itself without power as the motors are in different positions and don't retract until power is applied. In any case, be care not to install the steps until they've retracted or it can bend the step. This bit of wisdom was left out of the instructions - found it out when calling Amp about another issue.

Good luck in your decision - either choice is likely to be great!
