i was looking into what tires I might get when the Falkens need replacing on my Rubicon.

The stock tire is 285/70x17 and I was looking for a little more sidewall so I typed in 285/75x17 into the Tirerack’s website and came up with several including the famous BFG’s. These are also E rated which would be a plus when I end up putting a cap and RTT on the truck. These tires are about 34” in diameter versus the factory 33’s.

I really don’t think I want a wider tire like some here like (to each their own).

Any comments?

I’m there with you. Back and forth between 33-35s when I pull the trigger. 34s have popped up a few times. Might be the best of both worlds.

I went with 34”, I would recommend going 35” especially if you have a rubicon.

when mounted a lot of tires will run short. BFG is notorious for this. So if you get a 34 it is probably closer to a 33. I wish there was a tall skinny 35 but there isn't really. I went 37s knowing it was probably closer to a 36.25 once mounted and weighted.

I’m going with a 305/70/17 on stock rims...a little wider than I actually want but the height is just about right....no lift.

That’s about what a bfg mt 35 x 12.5 actually measures so you will be very happy

I like the idea of the pizza-cutter sizes but pretty much avoiding anything E-rated here. The Ford Raptor comes stock with C-rated tires, as does the Gladiator Rubicon. I don't think either stock vehicle would struggle with carrying a cap and a tent.

285/75/17 Cooper Discoverers. Great ride. Quiet. Great look.
We had Cooper’s on our Land Cruisers in Africa. We beat the snot out of them and held up remarkably well with our fully loaded rigs..

All tires will be shorter than their advertised diameter when mounted on a vehicle and on the ground. It not the contact patch would be too small to function. My 37x12.5 KO2s are stated to be 36.6 inches tall and they are 35.5 inches tall on the trick. I put 35.5 in the programmer when I updated the tire size in the computer and according to GPS tracker it is spot on.

Edited to add that if you want to run the stock rims you should check out the Nitto 35x11.5s. Ive seen them on a few JLs and they fit perfect under a stock Rubicon.
