Detailing my new JTRD and found this laying on the metal skid plate under the front bumper. Rubber and about 1.5-2" tall. Looks like a cap for something.

It looks like a thread protector that comes on items which have something screwed onto them.

Looks like what's installed onto the protruding ends of bolts to prevent scrapes/injuries. There are a handful of these on the inside of my cargo trailer, where bolts from the door hinges and latches come through.

I've also seen these used as caps on antenna cables, to prevent plugs or sockets from getting damaged or filling with debris. Could be that it came with a radio or antenna system and was discarded when the unit was installed.

I agree with everyone else. It looks like a cap to cover a threaded bolt end. Could be some road debris that blew up into your skid plate driving down the road, or it could even be a "left over" part from the assembly line that just didn't make it's way to the trash before they shipped the truck out. You'd be surprised how much stuff like this makes it out of the production plant. If I find stuff like this, I usually hang on to it for a bit just in case I find out where it might go, and if I really need it.
