I took my rig for some serious 4-wheeling for the first time yesterday. Holy crap, thing did great but still getting used to the dimensions which leads me to the purpose of this thread.

Coming to the Gladiator from Wranglers of various sizes, I thought the longer wheel base would be my biggest issue but after the first few obstacles, I found the rear over hang was to be my bane.

Does anyone have experience with skid plates mounted on their trailer hitch? I took this image from the Rock Road web page but this is what I am looking into getting. It's rather expensive but if it works like I think it will, it will be worth the price.

I've been thinking about this as well. The hitch receiver seems very strong though. Seems like it might be ok just to slide on the hitch. I'll probably put my spare tire on the bed cover on rough stuff so it won't need protection.

Oh yes, the receiver is pretty strong, it got scraped up a bit but the spare tire and bumper came through without a scratch.

Good to hear.

I am worried a bit about how far the Nitto 37 hangs down. Not exactly your topic but somewhat related. I don't want to slice it open on a sharp rock.

I bought one. Have prime coated it and one top coat thus far.

Around $100. Forget the fabricator at the moment . . .

Arent these 'facing' the wrong way? With the 'tongue' facing backwards (towards the front), wouldnt that get caught up?

Love the idea though!

I run the same thing. It works great. Has saved my bumper countless times. Mine is all scratched to heck but doing its job great. Know several other folks that have lost their rear bumper out on the trails that mention they would have loved to have had one of these.
