Also, what is this black box with the wire coming out of it under the ground connections?

That should be the IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor), you’ll want to be keeping that. As far as keeping both posts, you could disconnect the negatives and then cut the Aux battery wire off. Then tape or heat shrink the ends so they cannot come in contact with anything.

Don't delete your auxiliary battery! If you do than the probability of it potentially running down your main battery in the future is nil. You also won't be able to save all that gas reliably via ESS without it.

Last but not least. You can spend more time and money servicing and troubleshooting a 2 battery system vs. just running your main battery. Servicing only one main battery located conveniently near the top of the engine bay is boring.

if you want that extra tang for your winch, i just took a piece of 1/2 copper pipe, smashed it flat, added some solder to the ends then drilled 2 holes, one for the battery monitor tang, then took a bolt and ran it through the other hole and bolted my winch lead to it.

Or you can poke around on amazon for different types of battery lead connectors and come up with something.

I want to delete the aux if possible I do not use the ESS system at all. I have a taser.

I like the first post of possibly just cutting the wire and taping it up. I did not think of something that simple?

I think you should slow down and think about it for awhile. Don't do anything drastic. Drive it around for another year or two. It will eventually stop holding a charge and you will get some cool warning messages on you dash. Then you can kick back with a nice hot cup of coco while you spend 2 hours reading forum topics relating to troubleshooting the system. By the time you figure out how to service it you'll feel better and be glad you kept it.

You can keep it or delete it. Won't matter. It does add to the overall capacity of the battery system having it there since it's in parallel with the main battery 99.99999% of the time anyway. Things won't last any longer or less long one way or another.

your call - but if you choose to remove that, then you just have to think a little bit more and figure out how to keep the winch ground connected.
There are connectors on Amazon that allow multiple cable connections.

Exactly. Far too often, people think this is solving some mystic problem when it really isn’t.

If there’s a problem you’re looking to solve, that’s one thing. But if not, and you are not confident like this, why even mess with it?

You know, I’ve seen far more instances where the main battery is the one that goes bad. Perhaps we should be bypassing the main instead?

If you are doing the aux wiring and battery delete, you do not have to mess with the main battery ground terminal. You can just run aux battery negative cable end to inside fender body ground and leave the other end on the main battery negative alone.

Like mentioned, if you are unsure of electrical, do not mess with it. Not for the novice.

Increasing the effective gauge of the ground cable...............

People Work?
Jeep changed cables around in 2021, so yours could be either ground.
One will take the AUX battery offline. The other will take the entire vehicle offline.
So in that regard, it's pretty easy to tell if you got it right or wrong.
Don't forget to pull the magic fuse.
