Backroad's info needed.

In a couple of weeks I am wanting to travel, if possible, from Yakima to Tri Cities area. Are there any roads anyone can direct me to research and explore? Also, maybe from Ellensburg heading east. Since it is still early in the season we are looking for more dry than wet. Olympic Peninsula will be our next exploration and a little more wet but really excited for there.

I live in Tri-cities and pretty limited here, we usually drive a couple of hours to Naches which is near Yakima but most of that has quite a bit of snow still. A place we will go occasionally is called Juniper forest "no trees". It is a desert/ dune area on the way to Kahlotis about 1/2 hr from here. If you drive a bit farther from the Tri-Cities the towns of Walla Walla, Waitsburg, Dayton have a lot of nice scenic backroads.
