There are areas of some mud and water depending on the weather. It is not a solid managed road by any means But that being said there was a lady in a car attempting it. Was a beautiful ride that’s for sure.
Definitely turn left and follow the river back to Cherokee At the bottom. The signs are not well laid out. Also, GPS is all over the place in time estimates. It showed us 4 plus hours away from the road when in Gatlinburg. We took the hour drive through the GSMNP and at the Cherokee side visitors center GPS still said we were approx. hour and a half from the campgrounds. We were about 45 minutes away and that was with stopping a couple time on the BRP for site seeing. Watch for the sign that says campground on the BRP, we missed it so we had to turn around. I almost talked myself out of it because what GPS said the drive time was just to get over there. Less than 2 hours from Gatlinburg taking your time and stopping you are at the entrance to the one way road. So glad we did the drive.
