With winter approaching, we are about to head south for the winter sans Gladiator. As dumb as this may sound, do I need a battery minder on the Aux batt in addition to the main battery? Am I better off just having it started and run off and on? Not likely to be driven. Am I asking for trouble? Is there a better way?

Just put a maintainer on the main battery connections. The aux is connected in at rest, so both will be maintained together.

Only one battery tender is needed to charge both batteries. Connect to the positive side of the main battery and to the negative cable attachment to the IBS and NOT directly to the main battery negative terminal.

Good point, I should've been more specific in my reply. Don't bypass the IBS.

IMO, starting & running the engine without driving the vehicle and getting it up to full operating temperature is not good for the vehicle. You are better off just letting it sit.

Pages 350 & 351 of your Owner's Manual covers Jeep's official recommendations for storage:
Note that they are having you disconnect the batteries instead of using a battery tender/minder/maintainer.

If the vehicle is going to be left unattended for an extended period of time, I would recommend disconnecting the batteries. Otherwise, get a battery maintainer and connect it whenever it's going to sit more than a few days without being driven.
