Bestop Sunrider Update - No more "z clips"

Haven't seen this posted yet on the forum so I thought I would share my experience.

I received my new Bestop Sunrider Soft top yesterday and I installed it today.

After reading multiple reviews and watching numerous u tube install videos I noticed some of the most recent comments generated from this past month on the Bestop u tube install video comment section stated that they got rid of the dreaded "z clips" and that they should update their install u tube video?

Turns out this was true and the "z clips" are now as I would describe them to be "o clips". Seamless 30 minutes install and super easy. My neighbor helped me out but it can be done solo too. So far loving the mod.

I forgot to take pics of the "o clips" before install/ attachment. Follow the written directions as you must screw the "o clips" in and attach them to the brackets first before mounting them to the upper frame. I made the mistake of following older posted install videos.

This one looks like it would be less likely to fray if rotated a bit.

Yes it does. It attaches to a screw and a binding barrel that has a little give to it. They even provide a little loctite to apply on the screw.

I don’t know what the deal is with the z-clip install. It was a 10 second job per clip for me. At the most.

I do know there are complaints about their durability though, maybe the ring is better.

Bought mine through Amazon, arrived 9 days ago, installed about 5 days ago, came with the F’ing Z Clips. Guess they got tired of bitching. I damn near put it back in the box and returned it twice during install. Glad I didn’t, but I’m a moderately handy guy but I hate shitty design…..

The first one went in that easy for me, when there was a little give available. The second one took me about 5 minutes of struggling to get in there.

Wonder if possible to get the new design for my top. I have not installed yet and won’t happen without help. My hands don’t work very well. Old fart arthritis. For everybody with Z clips do you think it could be upgrade or are we stuck with the zzzzz.

just noticed one of my Zclips was broken. Reached out to bestop and they refused to help without a receipt. Who keeps those??? Can someone provide a link on those rings. I made a splice repair with aluminum fittings but it’s not strong enough. wouldnt recommend the sun rider to other based on poor design with poor support unless you keep all your receipts.

Not sure where you purchased your top from? If you bought directly from Bestop they would have your information on file.

With an expensive purchase like this I always either buy directly from the company or an authorized dealer. By doing so you will always get a digital receipt along with setting up an online account with the company.

Looked up Bestop warranty page and they are pretty tight on what is warrantied and to whom (original purchaser), how long and original receipt being needed.

I learned this same lesson on some Teraflex stuff and keeping receipts for warranty claim.

Those stupid Z clips are terrible. The rest of it is top knotch and we love it. This first one went right in but the second one took me 10 minutes, 20 tries, and a lot of cursing. The whole time I was thinking why they didn't use a small pin with a keeper.

So stupid for such a great top.

The z clips are really easy once you get the angle right. I install the z clips before any other bolts, so that I can manipulate those large plastic side pieces. Needle nose pliers can be used to get a good hold on those pesky z clips too. I hope mine don’t break, and we don’t plan on getting rough with them either. If they do break, I’ll be looking for a diy conversion or a warranty claim. I think Besttop could improve their design, so that the end customer didn’t have to deal with any clips in that area.

If you have arthritis you’ll hate the new design in my opinion. I just refreshed mine after a broken cable, and the rebuild kit came with the new style. I hate them in comparison to the z clip. I always thought the z clips worked perfectly.

I had both my z clips break, emailed pictures and the Amazon invoice showing when I bought it and they sent me an entire new sunrider.
