Here’s a test fit of the @JcrOffroad Universal Basket on top of @BillieBars w/ molle panels. I feel like these products were made for each other!

I’m planning on adding a hinge to the forward bar so that the whole basket can swing up and out of the way for loading and unloading.

Here’s what I’m liking so far about this setup...
  • It’s low profile enough to (partially) still see out the back when empty
  • It’s easy to remove when I want full bed access
  • The low profile and large basket offer tamper resistance for the soft tonneau cover
  • It’s sturdy enough to stand on
  • I should still be able to get my hard top off without a hoist with minimal effort
  • Mounting should appear mostly invisible since both use aluminum extrusions.

I have the same soft tonneau cover and am actually trying to sell it due to the lack of security it provides. However, this setup provides options for me to expand my storage while minimizing the threat of thieves cutting the cover and trying to take out my large tool box or other items. All the while cheaper than purchasing a Diamondback SE cover.

You, my friend, just saved me a few hundred dollars by going this route. Please keep us updated with your hinge solution. I am going to copy your setup.

Will the tonneau cover fit under the front cross bar when when folded.

When you fold your tri-fold tonneau cover to the front, will the tri-fold stack fit under the front crossbar?

I don’t have a tri-fold. It’s a soft roll-up. But even that won’t roll up the traditional way without hitting. I have to unhook it, pull the back all the way to the front underneath the crossbars, and then roll it up, there. I’d have better clearance to just roll as normal except the cover bows up in the middle (thus reducing clearance). It’s a process.

I expect that once I install the hinge, I’d be easily able to lift the whole thing and then fold a tri-fold as you describe. At least for the first fold.

Please keep us posted on your solution for a hinge.
