Hello Gladiator owners... I searched, could not find this on the forum.. When you open the door, backing up, the brakes apply and have to close the door to get to move. Is there a way to disable this when the doors are on ? It doesn't do this when the doors are off.. Appreciate your feedback.

I think it is a 'safety feature'. A tuner might be able to help you, but otherwise it is disabled when you are in 4-lo.

I think it's weird that the manual transmission models don't do this. We had a manual compass before, and it did it too. Probably because gladiators have a mechanical parking brake, and the compasses have electric parking brakes. Back on topic, this seems to come up every so often, and it doesn't look like anyone has found a solution. On the old TJs, there was an open door fuse (I think it was #7) and then the jeep wouldn't even know the door was open or off. I guess we don't have a dedicated fuse anymore, but If anyone wants to play around with the door wiring clip, it wouldn't be hard to see which pin it is on the harness with a voltmeter. But might take a little while with all the pins.

Or when Anton Yelchin crushed himself in his garage.

It's a safety feature that has a lot of people who can't use their mirrors backing up all bothered.

So I'm supposed to unbuckle my seat belt to then buckle in part of a seat belt to back up versus learning to adjust my mirrors and be able to back up every time. Seems like a case where the acronym is longer and harder to say than the words.

If I really need to open the door (which is rare), I just buckle the seat belt behind me. Cheap and simple. The system also monitors the weight sensor, so it is necessary to keep your butt planted in the seat.

He was the one that made the news - other people had been hurt.
I also personally know of a car that was at a body shop to be worked on - they moved it to move in another car, didn't have it in park - got out of the car and the car backed into oncoming traffic - BANG! Someone could have been killed because that car didn't have auto-park and didn't make it fully into park.
So it's not just "personal safety" and big brother, it's for people that don't set parking brakes and can't make sure the thing is in P before getting out.
