Deciding on whether to upgrade the full headlight housing or just go with some LED bulbs. I've looked at some previous posts about doing it correctly and upgrading the entire assembly and then there are those who have had success with upgrading the led bulbs.

For those who have upgraded the entire headlight housing, did you go with one from amazon or did you go with the Oracles/Diode Dynamics/etc. big names?

Any issues with the budget options? Any issues with the Oracle or Diode Dynamic options?

For 22 months I ran LED bulbs in the halogen housings on my Rubicon and they worked great for me. Some people have reported the bulbs flickering or bulb out errors on the dash but I had neither of those issues. To be honest, I only had them installed a couple of months before buying Jscan for a misfire issue and once I had it, I did change the headlight setting to LED. These are the bulbs I used: https://www.amazon.ca/Firehawk-Headlight-Japanese-Brightness-Visibility/dp/B08HHGKZHV?th=1

I'll attach a couple of pictures showing how well they worked. Two weeks ago during their sale, I bought a set of Diode Dynamics Elite headlights so I'll also show a picture of them. The LED bulbs were a huge jump from the halogens then the Elite lights was another huge jump over the LED bulbs.

I got a steal on here for some unopened oracles. It has been two years and they still look new and work amazing, I like the look too.

That last pic is crazy! Looks like I might need to save up for the Elite headlights!

Amazon specials in my wife’s JLU. Some hot spots but light years ahead of led bulbs in halogen housings. Once I added the bushwhacker fenders it almost looks like it came with the led package.

LoyoLED. Been running mine for 2 years or so now. Been flawless. They mostly sell the 7” headlights for JLs but include a bracket to fit on JTs

They have 2 different 9” headlights specifically for the JT last time I checked though.

Great customer service, highly recommend.

Sorry I don't have a "budget" recommendation for you. For me, this is a "buy once, cry once" type of purchase. Headlights are a huge safety component IMO and my original OEM halogens were terrible. I personally believe the Diode Dynamics LED offering is the BEST on the market currently. You can save some money by just doing the Elite version as the projectors are the same as the Max version.

Here's some of my comparison posts if you want to kill some time :)

I was completely happy with the LED bulbs and really didn’t intend to upgrade. The reason I did was after reading so many good things about the Diode Dynamics Elite lights here on the forum I wanted to try them myself. When I called during their black Friday sale I told the guy that I wanted to try them but would probably return them. He said that was fine and that they have a satisfaction guarantee with a 30 day return policy. It took a little work to get the lights dialed in hieght wise but after using them for 2 weeks, I'm keeping them.

I also went from halogen bulb, to Beamtech LED bulbs (which work well), to DD Elites (non-max) and have been very happy with the Elites so far. Definitely some install headaches with them, but was worth the cost and effort. I think I got mine for around $650 from Northridge 4x4 when they were running a sale. I also have the DD SS3 Pro fog lights and am completely happy with both sets, and don't find myself wishing I had gone any other direction.

I would highly recommend the Diode Dynamics Elite headlights. They aren't budget units, but "buy once cry once." They are just better built. The 8 year warranty is nice too.

My truck came with the OEM LED and those were pretty good, very good compared to the halogens, but even still the DD units are soooo much better. The cutoff is crisp, more output, and they are feature packed (I sprung for the Elite Max). The cutoff is key. I was getting high beams flashed at me with the OEM ones a few times over the few weeks after I got the truck but before putting the DD units in. The OEM LEDs seemed to be aligned correctly, but I guess people thought they made too much glare? I don't know, but it hasn't happened yet with the DD.

They are a bit of a bear to get aligned. If you get them, I recommend trying to align the driver's side first and when you are happy with that, then make the passenger side match that while facing a wall. The reason is that you can just barely reach the adjuster on the drivers side. The passenger side basically requires you to remove the headlight or the air intake filter housing to access the adjuster.

I was also recently in the market for budget headlights... and mostly interested in on-road performance (I have DD Pro's in the bumper and a 50" RC light bar, so off-road lighting is covered). Aftyer reading lots of reviews I finally settled on some cheap-o True Mods from Amazon.
I'm shocked at how much I like them, especially for the price! They're plenty bright, have nice looking halos (connected to my #4 Aux switch), and an acceptable cut-off.

Was it plug and play or did you have to change the settings to LED using a Tazer or Jscan?

True Mods claims that their headlights are plug & play. However I already had the Tazer Mini in the JT when I installed them, so no surprise; I haven't had any hyper-flash or bulb-out issues.
As a quick test I turned OFF the LED headlight setting in Tazer this morning and I still didn't have any issues. So I'm gonna say that they're truly plug & play.

That said one of the Amazon reviews did mention a high beam issue that may have been related to CANBUS stuff. YMMV.
