Doorless & Topless most the summer, this morning came to work and was ready for our typical desert rain storm... sprinkles. Instead we're talking 30 minute monsoon style rain, in the Desert no less! I'd put my trusty old tent rain fly on, but it couldn't fend off the onslaught of rain. Pulled the drain plugs up front, scooped out the water in the cup holders and dried off as much as I could. Tonight I'll set my big fan to run to dry things out. Who in the hell at Jeep put drain plugs in the back under the box? That person or team need to be take out back for some punishment.

Then I went back in and promptly ordered a Mopar rain cover. Guess my rain fly I used on my Wrangler for 10 years had enough, it wasn't much more then a mesh top :(

I see it as a right of passage for any gladiator/wrangler owner, to eventually get caught out in the rain. You, may have just had a tad more of an ‘experience’ than some of the rest of us. Welcome to the club.

I would recommend that you disconnect the seats, and pull the carpet out to dry.

edit : there may be padding below the carpet and fans won’t dry that out; better safe than sorry; you don’t want a moldy smell in that flooring.

As an FYI, there's actually 4 drain plugs in the backseat. There are two under the cargo box, but there's also two at the low point where the rear passenger feet would typically be.

I just took my flooring out recently so here's a picture that will hopefully help:

You can see all 4 rear seat plugs in this shot if you look for those black grommets/plugs.

Here's a couple more higher resolution shots if it helps, one with the two plugs you're looking for removed and one with them still in:

The original carpet I pulled was not perforated for the front two that I think you're trying to find. Best of luck!

Thanks again! Tried to find them through the carpet but it was a no go. Going to see how the fan does drying things out over night and I'll check again in the morning. Really appreciate your photos!

Much easier to remove the carpet.

There is tape over the drain plugs. Makes them hard to find by feel.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know about the drain plugs in the back. I know...I know...read the owner's manual. Always have my RainGear cover so haven't had a full flooding of the interior yet.

Yep, when we were living in S. FL a few years ago, there were a couple times I got caught in the daily monsoon while driving the TJ. One day it was so bad that there was water sloshing around on the floorboards while I was driving. I keep the drainplugs out on the TJ all the time... fortunately there is no padding under the carpet in that Jeep...

I did get caught with the panels out twice in the JT, but was able to quickly get under a gas station canopy to put them back in...

Another option (don’t ask me how I know after a downpour with no top), is to seal it up and sit a dehumidifier inside for overnight. Drain it after a few hours and if you are as lucky as me, no ill effects or odors. Replaced with Armorlite about 6 months later.
