I have now had my Gladiator just over 1 week and today the check engine light came on. Called the dealership and they stated it would be 4-5 business days just for them to look at it. They also said that Jeep currently does not have any computer updates and if the engine was running fine I should keep driving it and bring it into the dealership in a couple of months after they get the new updates.

Has anyone else had their check engine light come on already?

What are your thoughts on the what the dealer told me?

OMG! How stupid can they be. Take it to someone to at least read the codes. Never wait on a CEL.

Haven't had a light come on, but I'd take it to another dealer.....Kinda asinine to suggest you continue to drive it....

This is pretty typical. Jeep Service in my experience is so backed up that it can takes days stretching over a week to get an appointment in the shop. I find that not calling and driving up to the service bay helps

Jeeps also in my experience get a lot of false positives on engine lights. A common one is that the fuel cap isn't tight.

It's also quite common for these things to go away overnight. The light indicates there is a message. If it blinks there is something wrong.

If you lift or anything, you might get a programmer to set the new tire sizes. A side benefit is they can read the service codes, which you can look up yourself.

Sadly, this is all normal for owning a jeep, including the lackadaisical service department

A scanner cost about 30 bucks, codes are standard across brands. There is no reason you can get the code than see if it's a big deal or not. Many places will read the codes for free too.

So long as it is a steady light and not flashing (misfire), probably nothing catastrophic but I still would invest in a cheap code reader and see what it actually is and go from there.

The light is steady and everything is running just fine. Would never know there was an issue without the light. I tried auto zone tonight and they were unable to provide any info.

Did you check your fuel cap? I kid you not this was an error that my JK threw a few times and it was caused by the fuel cap not being tightened all the way down. It blew my mind when I pulled the error code, googled it, and the solution was reset the fuel cap...

My SRT allows you to read the codes of any engine issues in the driver cluster screen by flipping through the onscreen menu and assumed the systems would be similar...older JKs allow you to check codes by turning your key on/off 3 times but won’t apply to push-to-start.

I would go to the dealership and have them read the code, it will only take a few minutes, to see if problem can truly wait or if it's something that can lead to a bigger issue down the road or become a safety issue.

I find that odd. Standard OBDII readers (which they have) should give you the code.
