Clayton 3.5 Springs

Good Evening Questions to all running Clayton Springs, Do I want the 3.5 standard triple rate or the 3.5 HD triple rate for rears. I only have a bed cover, Molle racks in bed, loaded with some tools and recovery gear. I do not have a rack or Tent. I do go hunting and load it up pretty good. I also go and cut and haul lumber for the fireplace all year. Reason I am asking is because my order came in with both of them I was supposed to get standard rate rear and 3.5 diesel specific front. so wondering what to send back. Thank you.

I run the HD springs in the rear with an extra 1.5" spacer. I have about 300# in the rear and its fine like that. When it's loaded up with maybe 150# more it's a pretty nice ride.

I'd go with the standard duty and slip some air bags in for the intermittent loads as backup. I've hit 5,000lb on my drive axle with the HDs and bags with level truck.

I have the 2.5" Clayton standard coils. The bed has been loaded with firewood and it sags so little the average person wouldn't even know it's sagging. I think the standard coils will be fine for you.

Thanks again for the quick feed back. Tons of options as always. Crazy I like that idea of bags just incase. If I need to haul crazy stuff I can always take my F-350 but its not as fun to get fire wood with that when its full of snow, its more like work and worried id get stuck to heavy.

5. HDs and they have me more at 4.5" of lift and a little stiff. These are more for Overlanding so If you aren't loaded down much they may be stiff.

I have the original Clayton 3.5" springs they offered for the Gladiator in 2020. They never really sag no matter how much I put in the bed. The HD springs came out later, and based on my experience with the orginal springs, I would not put on the HD springs unless the bed is always loaded with a rack, rooftop tent, etc....

Awesome thank you Rob yeah I don't want to be jolting around as I wheel with it. and seems to me the standards will fit the bill.

Thanks HJ I will be shipping the HD ones back as Clayton has already shipped me the correct Front Diesel Specific coils. Seems like even my hunting trips and wood gathering won't be an issue for the standards. Like Crazy stated above I can always add bags if needed.

Go with standard. HD is really heavy duty. I have it but I also have a bed rack and RTT along with fully packed bed when i go camping.

I believe that Clayton only recommends the HD springs if you're carrying extra weight in the bed AT ALL TIMES. I wouldn't even consider HDs if your regular bed load is under 300 lbs (500lbs ideally).

Full Circle on this update just incase anyone is deciding between the two. I now have a GO Fast Camper Topper and Decked system in the bed. I just updated to the HD springs about a week ago so I will follow up once I get some miles on them. My standard springs lost to much lift for my Liking.

FYI I removed my front 3.5" HD Diesel Clayton springs as they were to stiff and went to Synergy 5" gas springs..perfect.
