Cloning a PCM - Is the dealer doing this correctly?

I want to install the stage 1 tune from EOC. From info learned about this process, I have to buy a new PCM and have it cloned to match my stock PCM. The dealer said they would remove the stock PCM, install the new one, then program it. Is that the same as a clone? Just want to make sure I"m heading in the right direction.

If I'm correct, it's not quite the same. Cloning copies your stock PCM settings. The dealer's method involves programming the new PCM, which achieves a similar result. Everything should be good though.

Just went through the process myself and that’s how the dealer ended up doing it. (Removing original copying then reinstalling) I was originally quoted 140 but after dropping it off they called and said it would be 280. They ended up charging a total of 309 but after some back and forth took 100 bucks off.

I’d check with EOC before doing this. I saw a post that they got ecu’s in stock for programming so they may take care of everything now.

Have you confirmed with EOC that a tune can be loaded on the PCM version that you have?

The dealers method will give you a clone equivalent. They are just following the procedure that would be used to replace one that failed.

So far I haven't been able to get an email reply from them, but why would it not work? What do you mean "PCM version"? Are not all 2021 JTRD PCMs the same?

I don't know for sure. There are two versions of the computer for the Gas Engines.

I bought a new PCM from Mopar for around $220 shipped. I was going to get one from EOC, but it would have been more expensive.

Here is the response directly from them:

"Cost for a new ecu is $450 CDN + $150 CDN clone fee. If we clone a blank ecu you will have a red security light illuminated in the evic when running the cloned ecu."

I just confirmed with EOC that the clone method above is the correct way to clone an ECU.
