What cold air intake are you running and what do you think of it? Did it help with towing?

It’s essentially $200+ down the toilet after you’re past the honeymoon phase/no longer wow’d by how it sounds.

Yeah there’s thousands of threads about it for gas… we do a lot of things to our Jeeps that’s essentially wasting money…

Reference diesels only for this question

I've got the Rough Country Intake in mine. I won't even pretend there are any actual benefits to it, I just enjoy the sound. Especially with a manual transmission, it's much easier to hear the engine revving.

Intakes do nothing but sound cool. This has been discussed in like 20 different threads with the same conclusion.
Yeah and I want it to sound cool.

Where is there a CAI for $200? The only one I considered were from AFE or Banks and upwards of $400.

Have you searched for the other long threads on cold air intakes?

And no, they help nothing. Doesn't matter the engine, gas or otherwise.

What ever you do - AVOID the K&N filters if you like your engine.

There's nothing wrong with wanting it to sound cool, either. The JT is the second vehicle I've ever owned to keep its stock exhaust and intake. We all spend money making them look cool, when we can't even see them from the inside. At least we can hear them when we drive. I still get giddy when I hear a turbo whoosh.

What’s wrong with the K&N air filter!? Just bought one but not yet put it on.

They let too much dirt through, they are among the very worst for dirt allowed to pass. They also fill to capacity faster than most, meaning you have the advantage of freer flow for a short time, then they lose their free-flow advantage, and let dirt through in the process.
This isn't just internet lore - it's based on ISO dyno testing.
Other similar dyno testing showed that the only flow advantage was up in RPM ranges most people would never see unless racing. How often to you drive with your engine running over 4,000 RPM? On a Ford pickup, the advantage was over 5,000 RPM. Even the LS in my chevy didn't see 5,000 very often.

Here is one chart showing the dirt that PASSED THROUGH the filter, into the engine, before the filter reached the restriction limit- it shows that K&N allowed the second most amount of dirt to pass, and it's possible it came in second worst only because it "plugs up" faster.

They are made more for the drag strip where you can clean them after every few passes, and there's not a lot of dust in the air due to the track being kept so clean. Still, a lot of people I see at our annual meets are running paper filters on the track.

I put the AFE exhaust and intake on my diesel, and there is a definite acceleration response, and going up through the gears. I really dont hear any sound changes, and I know the exhaust isn't much, just a removal of whatever restrictions from the muffler and resonator. I figure any potential cooling through the engine is worth it.

It does not filter as well as a Donaldson or a high end paper filter. that is why it flows more.

That said this particular intake does have a foam pre-filter. I oiled my pre-filter to help with this. I am looking into a better foam material to help compensate with the KN.

Side not there is a donaldson filter that almost fits the KN. I am working on finding another brand thats shorter so you can run a paper filter if needed.
