Hi All!

I have an automatic Overland. The dealer and information online claims the towing capacity is 6k, without the max tow....

That said, the manual claim 4K, but doesn’t specify automatic vs manual transmission.

Which is it??

Since you have your truck, you should open the driver's door and read the actual tow rating for your specific vehicle from the label. That's going to be the most accurate information available to you.

It's very unlikely that the tow rating will be on the door. What he'll find is GVWR and the front and rear GAWR. Both are related to payload, and how much weight the jeep can carry on it's wheels

Thanks - I knew they put some specific detail on the label but forgot that it was payload rather than towing...

Used mine for towing today for the first time....hauled about 3 cords of freshly cut firewood ....HEAVY! That would be plywood in its raw form!

I would guess each load around ton not counting the heavy old dump bed trailer. No issues.....would not hesitate to tow with the Gladiator.

Does anyone know why an Overland with automatic has a towing capacity of 6,000 lb.'s while a Sport with automatic only has a towing capacity of 4,50 lb.'s with the same rear axle ratio? Thanks!

That's a great question. The Overland, being heavier, should have a slightly lower rating.

I would trust the owners manual. Jeeps published materials are full of errors. We saw this extensively with the new JL last year also. Hell even the JL Monroney window stickers had errors and had to be revised.

I've been looking over this again, and it really is all confusing. So the Overland with towing package still has the same "heavy duty engine cooling" as Rubicon and Sports. Basically, any towing package including the Max Towing package all have the exact same cooling components. That's my assumption. Yet the chart above has different figures for every configuration. It doesn't make sense that a heavier Overland has 15 lbs. more payload and 1,500 lbs. more towing than a Sport S with the same equipment.

I really wish FCA would put out a more specific data sheet on this.

Overland and Rubicon (and max tow) get bigger brakes.
