Reasons:
if there were no gladiator, I’d be driving a wrangler (#2)
I appreciate the real truck specifications, but likely would have bought it with less
If the doors and top didn’t come off, i would have passed on it...
My first "Jeep" is a truck my MJ then XJ's following up with my LJ. Oh how many times I've heard that a MJ and XJ "Are not real Jeeps" then the LJ isn't a CJ, YJ, TJ yadda yadda. Then the JK crap the same thing too. Then the non Jeep hater's "It's going to leave you stranded on the road" AKA Toyota, Chevy, Honda crowd.
So mine is a highly capable vehicle to do what I want or need.... Truck or any other wise. I can't wait to be pulling out all of the above ones with my JT (Jeep Truck) now too.
Now that I've had the Gladiator for about seven months, here are the things I miss about my 2017 JKU (Sahara):
1. I was able to carry 12 ft long pieces of wood and trim from Home Depot or Lowes. With the glass lid open, sometimes longer pieces would stick out just a bit. For me to do the same with the Gladiator, I would have to buy a rack, or bend the pieces through the back window. I could remove the top, but what a pain.
2. On long trips, it was convenient to have one of my kids reach for stuff in the back of the Wrangler: snacks, jackets, etc.
4. On my recent trip to Sedona, I could've taken advantage of the Wrangler's shorter wheelbase and rear overhang (same size tires & wheels). Took advantage of the skid plates...
Overall, still very happy with the Gladiator. Some of the advantages of the Gladiator:
1. I was able to carry furniture that would not have fit in my Wrangler.
2. Cool factor. I get lots of looks and compliments since there aren't very many of them. I get about 20 or so additional smiles/hr.
Truck that is a Jeep. TBH, I hadn’t really considered a wrangler before. I had a mustang convertible and a Dodge Ram, and the gladiator is a satisfactory combining of the two.
i bought a jeep that is a truck. if i had not bought my jeep, i would have bought a 1978 Mercedes Benz 450 sl roadster to go along with my 1972 350 sl roadster. i am a sucker for basket cases.
I bought a truck that is a Jeep. I drove a 2500HD with a four door cab and eight foot bed for fourteen years. I wasn't ready to pay $90K for a replacement, and started looking at other options. I discovered the new Gladiator and went and test drove one. I've now had that one for a year and a half and put over 15K miles on it.
