In this video we are going to take a look at 5 popular diesel fuel supplements on the market: Stanadyne Performance Formula, Hot Shot Secret Everyday Diesel Treatment, PowerService Kleen + Cetane Boost, Archoil AR6500, and Opti Lube XDP All-in-one.

All of these products are marketed to improve the lubricity and cetane of your diesel fuel. We are going to compare each product to untreated diesel fuel to see if these products do what they claim to improve diesel fuel. Each sample was tested using D6079 otherwise known as the HFRR test and D613 which tests the Cetane of the fuel.

Two of the largest issues going on right now with light duty diesels are high pressure fuel pump failures like the Bosch CP4 and emissions system problems. All of these products are marketed to improve the lubricity of the fuel which would help keep the CP4 pumps alive and increase cetane which helps the fuel to burn cleaner, reducing soot build up in the engine overall.

Oh yeah! I've been using XPD since day one, and since I get 22+ MPG, I guess after 300,000 miles I'll have only spent about $3300. :)

Wow, surprising results! I've always used Hotshots but looks like I'll be switching!

Would be interesting to see DPF results after long term use of each product. One would think if lubricity is high enough to cut the base points of the fuel in half, is it more likely to clog filters faster?

Remember reading a reply from Hotshots to someone who was having DPF issues. Hotshots said that you didn't want to over dose. As it will cause down stream issues.

That's a question I have as well, along with others. Does an additive with higher lubricity potentially cause problems with soot accumulation in the DPF? Does the increase in cetane offset that potential? If yes, how much of a cetane increase is needed to offset? Would the results seen be similar in locations with fuel that is closer to the US minimum required 40 cetane? Would the results seen be similar if they'd also tried the "performance" dose recommendation?

Yes standard dose is recommended. For Hot Shots 1 oz treats 25 gallons so it’s already more of a dose. I can tell you running additive for sure changes my regens my temps and so on, this is all confirmed by IDash and Jscan programs. I regen less and my dpf temps are not always hot, and my passive doesn’t kick on and off wasting more fuel more def. It only kicks on when it reaches 84 percent soot lvl.

I use Hotshots too. But my passive kick off and on all the time. Once my SL% gets to 85%. It goes into regen.

Strange Rusty mine used to do that all the time also when I wasn’t using additive. I ran out of additive on a trip and mine would kick on and off. Now mine says off only when I hit 84 it will kick on and say passive. Tonight I hit 84 percent while driving to Walmart 4.4 miles away and I was back down to 11 percent. I have not gotten a continue driving alert in a long time.

Rusty here’s a short video. 30 mph head winds up a grade. 45 mile drive. My soot lvl does go down on these drives though.

Edit: What's the proper amount for like 1/2 tank?
