First, they aren't "Free", it's in the purchase price somewhere.

Second, do it yourself, know it's done right. Save your receipts, make a note in the Owners Manual in the back where there are blank pages. Date and mileage of oil change and if you want, brand of oil and filter.
Yes! I am particular about filter quality and brands of oil! Plus, my first oil and filter change is at 1500 miles no matter what.

Mine only came with 2 oil changes and 2 tire rotations. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt taking it to the dealer to feel it out.
Same, I got 4 with my first one (2020), my wife got 3 with hers, and a botte of touch up paint (2021), and now anything bought after 7/2023 only comes with 2, and I didn't even get the touch up paint.

The responses you get her vary widely based on people's dealer experience. I have a very good relationship with my dealer, and they've always done great work for me when needed, so heck yeah, free oil change! $50 to do it myself or $80 to have someone else do it, I'll take the freebees. Now once they're gone, I do them myself. But if you don't trust your dealer, that becomes a hard decision.

Edit: There's also a really nice little diner next door, so I drop off the truck, and go get myself some breakfast, I make a nice morning of it.

In theory, you should not have to remove it for a oil change visit.

The reality is that some dealerships will hook to the OBDII and scan without telling you and will try to do software updates to whatever module if there is a active TSB or recall because it is a easy warranty billing to FCA.

So I'm a completely new Jeeper. I bought my JTR back in October and I'm at 5300 miles now. I know I need to change oil. I don't really know anything about my dealership other than I wouldn't recommend buying a vehicle there. I received two free oil changes with the Jeep, so do I have the dealership do them every 5k or am I better off doing them myself? I've done plenty of oil changes and repairs in my life, but I also know the vehicle is under warranty. Do I risk anything with the warranty by changing my own oil? Should I let the dealer do it and continue to do it till the end of the warranty period? I honestly don't know what's best for the trucks sake.

I appreciate the feedback!
I've done both and keep a record and receipts from the ones I've done.

Will depend on the dealership. My old one, who actually did them when I had them, sure. New dealership that bought out the old one, no way. I tried to use the new dealership for a couple of other issues and were no help. Quite the opposite really. Plus like others have said, super easy to do on your own.

You changed your oil the day you bought it??? ?

✌✌✌ always good when you can cover most, if not all, vehicle work/repairs. I do most of mine, but I do use the included oil changes.
yep dint want the low kid on the mechanical totem pole doing it

Plus, you get an extra quart of oil, a drain plug tightened to 60 ft lbs, and a cracked filter housing! Can't be beat!
Got a good chuckle out of this one....
I take my 250 to the Ford dealership I bought it from for all service.. Last time there when I went to pick it up the service writer told me "whoever changed your oil last way over-tightened your drain plug."
They were the last (and only) folks to change my oil.

Far as the Jeep goes... I do not take mine to the dealership for anything because as soon as they get under it they'll void my warranty.

Asked the dealership I ordered my Diesel from if I could come, get the oil and filter, and do my own oil change as I have a shop, lift, and actually make an oil change a ritual, doing it the right way. Explained I would document everything. Nope! That would void the warranty. Brought it in and, talk about an F Up! Next day, my Jeep has a huge puddle of oil under it. Put it up on my drive on lift, and the undercarriage has oil all over everything, and, four areas where there was no rubber pads on the dealer's lift that scratched the shXt out of the frame in four places. Luckily there was still some oil in it, but, was missing several quarts. The gal (who looked about 15 years old) overtightened the filter, and it made a frigging mess. I sent several pics to the dealership, and they said "Oh, those frame scratches are from the factory". I explained to them that I had the Jeep on my drive on lift the second day I had it, and there were no scratches. Well, now, I get the oil and filters, do my own oil changes, and just document it, all only after I had to put my foot down, and get that permission in writing. So, those wanting to do their own oil changes under warranty, should get it in writing from the dealer, as mine had said it would void the warranty. It's a shame that good mechanics are difficult to come by, ones that can diagnose a problem, and know how to fix it! I spent a lot of time I didn't have, to sand and repaint the frame, and clean up all the oil on my floor and everything underneath.

I got my most recent 5qt on sale for 23$ and a filter for 11$.

For ~35$ and less that an hour from start to finish including cleanup... I know every thing is done correctly and tightened to spec.

I'm not negating anyone's need to save some money or time, but I've been burned too many times on poorly done or out of spec basic services to allow the dealer to touch the truck I love so much.

Also I enjoy collecting the samples for Blackstone, makes me feel like some sort of Mechano-Scientist ?
