Well apparently I over torqued my windshield bolts that they pushed out some. See if I can get a body guys to do a quick look at it. If not looks like a light bar is in my future

Ouch! That's a bummer. Thanks for the heads up. Would never have thought once tightened the bolt ends would be that close to the interior of the header panel that this would be a possibility.

Wow thats so whacked. Good to know as I am planning on taking the windshield down as soon as I find the straps to hold it down.

This is a bit confusing and maybe I've not considered the structure inside the windshield frame - but.......
Once the bolts are seated finger-tight, you won't get a lot more turn - meaning, you aren't going to get more than what, 3/4 to 1 full turn? Maybe only 1-1.5 turns tops?
What's the thread pitch? Will 1 turn even move the bolt 1mm?
Going from pretty tight to REALLY tight will be a fraction of a turn - not enough to move that bolt through the "nut" or threads even 1/100 of a mm ??
Those look to be out a couple of mm - that means more than a turn past tight, right?

Figure the pitch of the thread.
Then figure for each turn how far "forward" or further in the bolt will move - not much at all.......
Something's wrong with this picture.
I'd have to put my longer ratchet on mine to get them to turn in that much farther than they are! That's at least 1-2 turns past tight.
When I put my windshield back up - I tightened it pretty darned snug since I figured I didn't want leaks or rattles, no way I'd have bent the structure and forced the bolts into the metal (doesn't matter if it's aluminum, steel, platinum or kryptonite, you should feel the resistance)

I have similar thoughts to ShadowsPapa... The thing that immediately comes to mind is a super duper crushed window gasket (check that it's still in tact and not torn from the same incident) and an aluminum window frame. Still, I'd want to make sure the bolts are right and not longer than they're supposed to be. That seems like something that would have been considered in pixels before it made it on your truck.

Why is there an apparent large dent around the bolt-end on the left?

Kevin
I also wondered that............ is the "nut" part attached to the OUTSIDE layer of the frame, so over-tightening to the millionth degree pulled the metal in, then further tightening to 400 pount/feet pushed the bolt out through the end of the threaded part?
That had to take some crazy force.

😳 Damn I must have just lucked out when I dropped the windshield to run some wires. I just snugged them down with the supplied socket tools.

So many thanks for heads up
