Hi all,

A good friend of mine is looking for a difficult to find Toyota vehicle and is having zero luck looking locally.

Does anyone know of a Toyota dealer worth flying to and driving the vehicle home??

Thanks.

Handy Toyota in VT. https://www.handytoyota.com/

You didn't say which car/truck he was looking for so can't be more specific/helpful.

Best bet is use Auto Trader and cars.com to search nationally.
Looking for a Rav4 plug in hybrid. At first I was like. Ugh. But then I did some research. The thing is a hot rod and gets 45 miles electric.

Its the second quickest vehicle Toyota makes. After the Supra!!.
0-60 in 5.5 sec with the quarter in 14.1 sec

its also got the best fuel economy of any Toyota made other than the Prius.

Not my thing. But a great family hauler if you don't need a 3rd row. Expensive but in my state, you get a total of $9500 back in tax credits.

Good luck on that search! They are selling SUPER FAST. Just use the national searches and leave your browser open all day and keep looking. They are listed and sold same day a lot of times. With time you should be able to find one.

Ideally, I'd like to find a dealer that will place an order. Then its low stress. You just wait.

Looking for a Rav4 [Prime]
There was a period of time not that long ago that if you went to toyota.com they wouldn't even let you do a B&P for a Rav4 Prime, simply stating that it could not be ordered at that time. Their supply is still really constrained. It would not surprise me one bit if dealers willing to offer ordering discounts on every other model they sell would not be willing to do so on a Rav4 Prime.

I don't know how many Toyota dealers you have around you, but all the ones near me (a lot) have nearly empty lots.

supramkv.com has an ordering section where people are sharing which dealers are only charging MSRP. with no one even mentioning invoice (one guy said be bought for $500 under MSRP).

Rav4 Prime's are harder to get than supras for the record.

That's a tough one. I know the Tundra's are sold before they even get delivered so its even a bigger challenge to get the options you want. Toyota isn't like Jeep where you have a blank order form and order what you like. Toyota builds what they think will sell in your area based on past data then allocates so many to the various dealers. A dealer can put in a "I would like this please" suggestion and you might get 80% of what you're looking for and some stuff you may not want. Dealerships are also selling over MSRP so you have to find a dealer who won't gouge you (seen them go 10K+ over MSRP). They definitely exist though. You're best off looking at dealer web sites and calling around and placing requests in multiple dealerships.

I been looking for the same thing For Hyundai as my wife wants to buy plug in or just plain hybrid Tuscan and everyone around here in Katy and Houston wants to add $10K Market Adjustment fee and all kind of other crap. I told them when they did the car appraisal I wanted a $10K market adjustment and they told me oh we can't do that. I said yep well I can give you a market adjustment either. Was told there are people waiting to buy these. Oh well they can give you that extra $10K if they want but won't be me

Toyota is unique in that they don’t do factory ordering. Period. Dealers don’t even have the opportunity to order. Allocation is based on the region, what combination of packages, trims and options sell in that region, the number of dealers in that region, and the overall sales volume of each region. Dealers submit requests for models, for instance a dealer could say they want a Camry TRD in white with the black roof and red interior. Toyota will say okay, here is all the TRD inventory we have coming to your area that we can allocate to you. They could get 5 Camry TRD’s and not a single one be that combination of trim color and options. Toyota’s stance behind is that they sell enough cars, and have enough dealers, that (in a perfect world) a customer can find exactly what they’re looking for in their area.

I've also always heard, that as the pioneer and inventor of JIT inventory, Toyota doesn't do factory ordering.

I do not think any of the major Asian brands actually do custom ordering. As mentioned, it is all based on dealer allocation and they just try to plug you in as close as possible on your request to said allocations or do a trade with another dealers allocation vehicle. All their website builders are just wish lists generators.

Subaru isn't a major brand, I realize, but my sister ordered exactly what she wanted my brother in law to drive, a white WRX! Hahahahah! Took 8 weeks to build and ship over from Japan.

Tried to get an Off Road 4runner for the wife a few months ago. A total nightmare. Market adjustments, a 2K toyo guard, all kinds of other fees. Way too much time wasted for this type of nonsense. Ciao Toyota it's been real.

It's not all Japanese cars, in South America, especially Venezuela, they LOVE Toyota and pay alot more in their home countries for Toyota. Now that half of Venezuela is in the states Toyota takes advantage of them all and makes it difficult for more experienced buyers.
