looking to see if anyone has seen some type of option to put some exterior type deadbolt on the door to help secure it from would be thieves. I have seen similar done by Global Expedition Vehicles and their F350 builds. I am asking as if we do the Panamerican HWY we will need to store the vehicle due to seasonal changes and issues with road closure due to bad weather.

not to be a downer/ defeatist, but if you put a deadbolt on, can't the thieves just unbolt the hinges?

No, the units I have seen in the similar use go through the actually door with a flat bolt. Not your hinge type anyways. It was done by earthromer on one of there builds, of course one could break a window or even do further damage. My point would be making something more secure, if breaking into taking more time and limiting what they can steal from a vehicle, etc,, Not to mention options if we where storing or transporting the vehicle to be able to have it better secured in a conex, or even allowing us to have time to respond to a break in as well with other options.. so much can be done here to assist in this. Yet, it is way down on my priority list too. I’ll try to find something that shows what I mean, a picture..

Here are the door lock option Earth Rainer uses. They do not sell them outside of their builds. But there are locks in the market that are similar in use. Expedition bound was a good resource for information on this. Many these days using vans for travel or for work and can be also found under van locks. You would be using these locks in covert with some sort of security film to prevent them breaking your window. The top would be the easiest point of ingress and even then with a rack covering it not really a possibility to get in through there.

These are just a few samples. Thule even makes me one similar to the armadillo locks. Which right now are my preferred solution so far. Not only does it meet my need. By can be painted the body color as well as its use won’t damage the paint as some other solutions will. Of course, on the key side having some paint protecting film would be useful. I wold love to see any other solutions one has come upon for this type of use. When you are depending on your vehicle to not only live out of, travel out of, but in a foreign country it is your lifeline to everything and without it or much of he equipment you have in it, your trip is ruined and over with.. you find solutions to meet your needs. I prefer a more eloquent solution and not just drilling in a gasp hinge as mentioned before, as well as easily defeated too..not something I would even drill my vehicle for!
