We keep seeing E88 gasoline popping up on gas station signs at significantly lower prices than E87. Is it safe to use in 3.6 Jeep engines ?

If it's truly just 88 octane with the standard amount of ethanol then you'd be fine. But based on you comment of low pricing I'm assuming it has a higher than normal ethanol content which in that case I would not.

Careful mixing the octane and blend names up...

88 octane E15 is cheaper than 87 octane E10 but your MPG will decrease slightly. The cost savings usually win out. The manual says we can use it. Do not use E85 or any other "E" greater than E15.

E15 is about 2% less mpg than e10. So if it's more than 2% cheaper, go for it.

My local Sheetz has it and I have been running it quite regularly.

Round me no E is offered. I can get about 19mpg with that over the standard blend.

What is E88 and E87? I've only ever known of E85. Can you snap a picture?

E85 is 85% ethanol.

87 and 88 are standard gasoline octanes, not ethanol blend percentages.

So these would be two very different things.

Back before E85 as we know it was a thing, some gas stations used to have E86, E87, E88, etc on the pumps to denote it was ethanol gas with the listed octane to differentiate it from non-ethanol. Every once in a while I still run across one of those old pumps, but they're few and far between. Makes me wonder if that's what the OP is seeing.

Not many around here run it, except for one company that really promotes it.
