After reading on the JL Forum about someone who “tightened” his steering by turning “off” his electric power steering, I checked the status of mine with JScan. Mine showed the current status as “Deactivated”. I switched it to “Active”, and went for a test drive. The steering felt much “tighter” at all speeds, requiring a slight bit more effort to make corrections. Has anyone else checked their default value or made changes? For the record, my steering did not wander beforehand.

Can this be done with a Tazer? If so, someone please post up a how-to video on YouTube... If it's not, then someone needs to email ZAutomotive and see if they can work that into their next software update...Because if the JScan can do it, the Tazer with more functions should also be able to do it. :like: I would love to tighten the steering up a good bit. I like to drive with 1 hand and when I hold the wheel in place, I like the vehicle to stay in that 1 place, and not float-around until I move my hand. My dodge was that way factory (even after the 6" Fabtech lift and 38's) before the steering sector failed and almost caused me to wreck, and the dealership replaced it with a 4500/5500 steering sector (which later became a major recall upgrade for the Ram 2500/3500 trucks, but I never got reimbursed my $1,500 it cost me to repair it... Assholes!).

I'm VERY familiar with straight-axle trucks, and know what they CAN be like when they're setup right. But there is certainly something wrong with these Jeeps somewhere in the system. Whether it's the adjustable worm-gear not being turned-in enough, or whether there's play between the sector and frame, or something... But it needs to be fixed. I don't like that float-around steering crap.

Yes, it can be done with a Tazer. To update this, a friend of mine with a JL just checked his with his Tazer. He found his status to be "Active", and switched it to "Deactivated". His experience is that his steering now has MORE power assist. His Jeep was used when he bought it, so it could have already been switched from the factory default. I would be interested in what others find...

Can he tell you step-by-step which section it’s under, and what it’s called, and whether he selected “yes” or “no”, since they don’t use the terms “on” and “off” (which I thought was confusing and stupid for Tazer to do)?

Thanks.

He says he thinks it was under the “off road” menu, and “off” disables the system. Not really sure the programmers really know what this actually does...

After spending all day on trails, I have come to the conclusion that that I can’t tell the difference between the 2 settings. Maybe it just turns off a malfunction alert if you unplug the pump...
