Jeep Gladiator Enough about the ESS ! ( Auto Start Stop) 20210902_133527

On my test drive (which they
required I do alone. Yeah )
I felt a vibration/ shudder leaving a stoplight and thought, what the hell is that?
ESS . Knew right then I didn't like ESS .
So like most new JT owners I
looked on the forums and saw lots of posts about it . One of them said just unplug the hood plunger, problem solved! Yes there will be an icon on the display( A! ) but so what?
In fact I think the alert bugged
the OP so much he couldn't take it . Just like the "man bun"
thing it doesn't bother me at all.
There will also be a message in the menu but so what ? I just scroll right by it .

Like so many other things after awhile I don't even notice the alert . If the alert bothers you more than the ESS that's up to the you .
Now if the light continually was flashing like on my daughter's Scion XB low tire pressure warning , that would bother me ! Course I don't think she ever looks at the dash so it doesn't bother her. Ha !
I just popped the plunger out
(two tabs ) rather than unplug it so no dangling wires and keeps the plug clean .
Maybe this should be a
sticky ? Or maybe a shorter post would be better. I see it comes up all the time and I don't think most people know about this simple fix. I have been tempted to reply to other posts but it would just get lost in the conversation.

Not sure what you mean.
For some reason there are two plungers . One will warn you the hood is not latched the other disables the
ESS and as far as I can tell that's all . I suppose you could add a switch to enable/ disable from the inside.

I’m actually happy for once to live in a place where AC is required 99% of the time ?

But I've seen other posts that say it doesn't always disable it . Check it out after the weather changes.
And I'm assuming it will. Ha !

That shudder you got...I turn mine off with the button every time I get in it. Occasionally, there is still a slight shudder (not the full blown restart) after I have been stopped and then let off the brake. It's as if the truck still wants to work the ESS.

Have you experienced that?

Damn...

There's no, "Dislike," button...

So if you have to scroll through a warning on the dash, why not just push the ESS Off button instead? Then you don't get the warning, no A!-alert, and the ESS is off.

Only with ESS enabled. With this fix ESS is clearly disabled and the engine never shuts down.

The menu warning is only one of the pages . If you left it on any page such as speedometer that's what you'll see the next time you start your truck. You only see the warning if you actively scroll to another page .
Jeez !

I'd have to double check but what it is is the messages page where it always says " no messages ". You have to scroll by it to get where you want anyway .
