So I’ll have to get pics after work but I did this to mine as well. I did find an adapter but I wasn’t about to pay for the shipping. So I ended up making my own adapter. Eventually I’ll be having the machinist at work make me a prettier one.

Maybe make a few extra because I bet I'm not the only person who wants to do this. I would get a bar and make as many as you can, then price out labor+materials+shipping

I also thought about running a new wire with an adapter for the radio. Probably need a new mount.

When you have the nicer one made, send me one and I'll cad up a black cover sleeve. I'll QA it's fitment and send you some 😉

i planned to make a few of them so I could do that. Just deciding how the best way to make it. Either have the threads machined onto the stud for the base like what I made already or machine the threads inside of a solid slug and you’ll just have to put an Allen head thread insert in the base.

I don't have a functioning radio, so the first to go will be the antenna. If it doesn't work I'm pulling the radio to look.

Got one made out of SS at work. Now to test fit it and see if my measurements are right.

Looks clean, if it works I'll make a cover out of PETG if you want.

A stock AM/FM antenna is typically a tuned 1/4 wave whip for the 88-108MHz FM band and it operates as a very high impedance E field probe for the .55 to 1.6MHz AM band. An AM/FM car radio has an antenna matching circuit to make the stock FM band tuned antenna work on the AM band. If you radically change the antenna like replacing it with an 27MHz CB antenna and don’t retune the antenna matching in the radio then AM reception will suffer. So will FM reception because a CB antenna doesn’t work well for FM broadcast.

In the late 70s and 80s when I installed car radios we would sometimes install a longer AM antenna for some customers who traveled in areas with poor AM signals but the radios back then were easy to adjust the internal antenna tuning to optimize the longer antenna. I have not seen antenna peaking adjustments on a modern AM/FM car radio so no easy way to make a CB antenna compatible with AM reception.

Then there would be the problem of trying to use the CB antenna on an AM/FM mount with stock cable as the cable is high impedance and will cause a terrible matching problem with a 50 ohm antenna and radio.

The antenna we're looking at is an am/fm antenna that looks like a CB antenna.....
