Looks to me like this is more based on the fact that only 1 plant produces them, and they have material shortages to manufacture them. Not that the price point isn't a huge selling point to it, but it's clear Ford didn't put in any infrastructure to produce these on a decent level and have to stop orders because of that.

I think Ford is going to make a killing on these. They're the perfect truck for like more than half the people that think they need a truck. You get a truck bed, the ability to tow stuff (very low rated, but for most people it's probably fine if they don't have a large camper or anything bigger), 4 doors, like 40 mpg with the hybrid, and $20k in a time when a compact sedan like the Civic starts at $22k. I hope it brings back the small truck.

I still think they look awful though lol.

I can't wait until someone drops a coyote or the new 7.3 crate godzilla in one. AWD with a bed, surely the used market will be plentiful with specimens in the coming years. The aftermarket is already all over them. I'm grateful it exists if only to encourage other auto manufacturers to snap the heck out of it as @ilovebikes99 mentioned. Stage 5 and Lethal Performance will be racing to push out conversion kits, Stage 5 already offers tuning on the maverick. OOTB that 8-speed auto they are using will hold double the torque so even a wee F-150 2.7 EB tuned (warrantied reman long block can be had for cheap) would allow it to cut 11s. Throw coils on it and haunt the HPDEs & AutoX. What a fun little platform. Well played Ford.

It's a shame that COVID has jacked everything up.

Inflation is up, supply is down, demand is up.

Dealers in my area are marking them up $10k, while a Ranger is $1,000-4,000 off.

I worked with a guy that dropped a 5.0L engine into his Ford Ranger Splash back in the 90's. That thing was a beast. Then he added nitrous..........

If I were to ever get my hands on a 70s or 80s Jeep like this - I have a 401 and some trick parts......

But I still say the Maverick was a cool looking car. I'll never ever think of a Maverick as a truck of any kind. Maverick was a small CAR.
Isn't this some sort of "cultural appropriation" by Ford, stealing the name and familiarity from another vehicle?

The Maverick is a CAR, Ford - are you paying attention?

Dude I loved the Ranger Splash. Ha.

And the Maverick (and yes I agree @ShadowsPapa this was a unique choice of names) is such a smart move for Ford to bring in new blood to the brand and create a funnel to eventual (more profitable) F150 sales.

I initially shook my head when Ford decided to remove cars from its portfolio but it seems that strategy now makes a lot of sense. I really like that the Maverick exists.

All about the price point and it provides a small truck for peoples needs. Not everyone wants to chop, cut, drop in massive engine. I am sure there is that market but there are a ton of people who just need a small truck with decent price tag to haul home depot supplies, etc. Hope it pushes others to see that they need to roll things back and start producing some vehicles with basic functions at decent pricing. It a vehicle I would consider if all I needed was just the basics. I am trying to pay my JT down as fast as possible since I swore that I would never get involved with another big car note but I had wanted a jeep truck for so long I had to break my agreement (LOL)

I knew those would be VERY popular when Ford first announced the Maverick. It's like a more capable Ranchero and those were popular for many years.

Don’t forget the Maverick is rated to 1500+lbs payload capacity. That’s better than a lot of mid sized pickups on the market.

Ive reached the point, after a year or so of debating and researching, that I am 100% committed to purchasing a Ford Maverick as my commuter vehicle.

Im holding out until either later 22 or mid 2023 though - I want to finish some of the major work planned for my Gladiator (Wheels, Tires, Regearing, etc) before I take on that expense.

It doesn't look all that great to me. I would much rather own a Honda Ridgeline than a Maveick.
