Well, it was enough for me to look up:

Stinger Bumper:

What Is the Purpose of A Stinger Bumper?
Front stinger steel truck bumpers serve two important functions on any offroading truck. Their main purpose is to prevent a rollover caused by shifting vehicle weight when descending a steep incline. Should an offroad truck end up off balanced to the point where a nose rollover becomes imminent, the stinger bar interferes. The protruding stinger keeps the truck from actually going over onto its nose and rolling over. It's like a wheelie bar on the back of a drag car, only in reverse.

Secondarily, heavy duty steel bumpers like stinger bumpers provide important protection for the front of the vehicle, preventing damage to the radiator and the entire nose. Although rear stinger bumpers do exist and are sometimes used similarly to prevent a rear rollover, most owners use them to protect their spare tires in the event that the vehicle ends up sitting on its rear.
which stinger bumper is this?

I decided to go with the barricade alloy bumper. Has steal direct mount to the frame and steal for the winch mount, and an aluminum bumper. Winch should be here tomorrow. Had to drill (2 holes) the skid plate to fit as its designed to work with the factory bumper. Waiting on fog lights, as the rubicon leds don’t fit, as well as some small yellow llc lights for the bar.

Well it’s here. Anything I should know before I do the install tonight?

@Gdavis and @Idtattoo , can you post more photos of the bumper, wondering what it looks like from the side.

What are your thoughts? What skid plate are you using? Did you replace a 3 piece steel bumper?

I’m using the stock skid plate that came on it. My Rubicon didn’t have the 3 piece bumper.

Did you go with the alloy version? Will the aluminum be as strong as the steel version?

Yea went with aluminum. No aluminum is not as strong as steel. I don’t plan on doing anything so extreme that I’ll be bashing my bumper into boulders though. The aluminum used on this bumper is pretty beefy.

From their product pages it says 5/32 steel vs 4mm aluminum. Just checked, 4mm is 5/32 as well. Most aftermarket steel bumpers I thought used 3/16 steel, so barricade (is that extremeterrain.com house brand?) is skimping on the steel. Also if the aluminum is the same thickness, that makes no sense.

Exactly.... the thicker the better in my book, don't plan on bashing it, but I want max smash available when some dumb-ass decides to blow through a red light
