I really like the look of the short rack but what are the advantages of each. I just want to get a better understanding.

I couldn't decide on the height so I went with Road Armor which is adjustable to three different heights. Right now I have set to full height with spare tire mounted underneath. For me this rack will give flexibility as my needs change.

I like my half rack cause I am short :).
I can still fit my RTT and room for other accessories. If I need a bigger RTT, then a full would make sense. My rack is also not permanent. I take it off in the winter since I don't plan to camp during the winter months. May change though. YMMV.

I’m all about my Rebel Off-road half-rack.

Pro:
-Will keep my RTT just above the hard top roof line.
-Looks good.
-Can attach a ton of stuff (traction boards/tools/Water/fuel/bikes)

Con:
-Limits height of usable cargo space.
-Some racks are not light! This one weighs 160ish pounds.
-You can catch a coma if you have to crawl in the bed for some reason and aren’t careful.

Is the purpose of the rack mainly for RTT?
I think thats a pretty safe thought. I have seen racks carrying larger sized spare tires on and even under the bed rack. Attaching extra gear to maximize cargo space....

My rack keeps what's on top even with the height of the roof. No reason to carry stuff up higher except for a RTT <EDIT: or kayak, canoe, long boards, etc. >

Full height racks help carry anything longer than the bed, such as surfboards or lumber, etc. RTTs are perhaps more common, but not the only reason to go full height.

The Rebel Off-Road rack looks fantastic. Would you mind sharing how much vertical space you have under it?

I have the table mount so I gave you that also.. I might be 1/32 or two off in my measurements but it gives you the idea. And besides....I’m just some random person on the internet...:)

How much does the half rack block your view through the rear view mirror?

Fishbone half rack on mine.

+’s

.With an RTT, its level with the hardtop thereby ’aerodynamic’.
.Moving large items prohibited by short rack
.I‘m short, it’s easier to access the rack sides and top
.People think that the half rack is cooler and different

-‘s

.Need an extra support bar to put my kayak on the rack and roof, otherwise it’s sticking out the back end in the bed
.Blocks my rear view with the rack halfway up my rear window
.Moving large items prohibited by short rack
.
