I just saw a towing video done by the folks at TFL. At the beginning of their road trip they filled up a Gladiator with gas. And I could not help but notice that they let the gas cap just dangle down below where it could scratch the paint of this new truck. Months ago I noted that it looked like Jeep put a little clip on the gas door so you could hang the gas cap on the door by the plastic tether instead of letting it dangle down below and scratch the paint. See the attached gas door picture. I circled this clip. Isn’t that what this clip is for? Red car here has the gas cap properly hung so it does not scratch the paint. And just FYI Jeep doesn’t say anything about this in the owners manual (page 348), really surprising.

My brother has a JL rubicon and unless I missed it, I could not find anything to hang the gas cap on. I even thought that was odd. Hopefully the JT have a designated spot for the cap.

See my middle picture. That is the inside of a Gladiator gas door. See the little clip thing that I circled. I think that’s there to hold the tether to.

That hook is contoured to fit inside the rim of the cap. Less stress on the tether that way, cap won't strike the paint when hanging, etc...

I thought that could be another possibility. Obviously the folks from TFL didn’t try that out. I can only suggest that Gladiator owners use it to protect the paint of their nice, new rides.

For everyone’s info I got a call today from a local dealership to advise that he just got 2 Gladiators in. I checked them out and made certain that I checked out the gas cap. There’s 2 different ways you can hang your gas cap while filling up. Suggest that you use either one of these instead of letting the gas cap dangle down and scratch up the paint of your nice ride. Happy trails!
