It's basically a non-aerodynamic brick. I get about 14.8 for in town with 4:10s and 37s. You want good gas mileage on the highway, learn to tailgate. Seriously. Letting another car cut the wind for you will be a dramatic increase in gas mileage.
You are serious.
Just like Nascar, then the big one happens.
Buddy if you are going to ride my ass, at least pull my hair.?

Mojave - stock 33's and 4.10 gears. Brand new I was getting 14-15 mpg. The tranny was tight and would almost slow me to a stop rather than coast. 11,000 miles in I'm getting 19 in the city, 16 on the freeway (due to 75 mph speed limit.) I average about 14 when I do serious off road.

I was a bit pissed about mpg when it was new. I had a 03 4Runner with a V8, 3inch lift and almost 33's (K02's) for 18 years. It got 17 mpg no matter what, city, freeway, fuel blend, air conditioning.

To help my perspective, my 67 convertible firebird 400 gets 8 -14 mpg depending on how I throttle it.

There is definitely ways to get better MPG and some of us are definitely concerned with maintaining 20mpg while enjoying the brick.

@ $3.30/gal (national average gas price) it costs a driver $66 per tank (20gal)

320 miles per tank ( which is 16mpg )

vs

400 miles per tank ( which is 20mpg )

There is an 80 mile difference in tank longevity with the mpg difference.

Im pretty dang happy with my extra 80 miles per tank! Haha by no means is it a ā€œsipperā€, but I think it can be better on the wallet without sacrificing the fun factor for a lot of owners.

So I have a new JT overland and the gas mileage is not impressive. I've mainly drove in the city but really short commutes. Farthest I've taken it on the highway is maybe about 15 miles. Right now it's showing me my average is 14.3 mpg. Is this standard? Everything I've read has said it should be about 17 city, 23 highway. This is my first Jeep, so maybe this is just expected lol. But curious to see what other's have experienced!
i got about 15mpg in my previous gasser it used to be around 16-17 but with the heavy black rhino wheels i had it dropped to 15,and that was with my steel front bumper, oilpan&tranny skid and all of my recovery gear and powertank on the truck fulltime

thats why i went with a Ecodiesel cause i plan on putting big tires and a lift,But i dont know whats my MPG's,but the truck only has like 2700 miles i think and ive only filled it up 6 times and most of those times my tank was at quarter tank so maybe if i didnt have done that it would be about 3-4 tank fill ups from E to full ?

But yeah so far im lovin it,saving money on fuel but.......the maintenance is were its gonna bite me but who cares,i got way more torque down low and i dont gotta drive it like a race car for it get up to speed,i can drive it like i want the thing to last for a long time :D

It's horrible anywhere with hills, like my area. It uses the brakes going downhill and feels like it uses 100% throttle uphill.

It doesn't bother me enough to turn it off but I am sure I could do better myself.
The cruise control doesnā€™t apply the brakes, but it will downshift. And, like most Chrysler cruise controls, it does a pretty good job of maintaining speed.

You canā€™t trust the, ā€œAverage,ā€ fuel economy readout on the instrument cluster for long distances. I donā€™t now how long it uses for itā€™s average, but itā€™s not very long (think a couple hundred miles verses thousands.)

I'm getting around 18.5mpg overall and I usually cruise around 80-90mph on the interstate and have a heavy heavy lead foot in the city. :giggle:

For reference, thatā€™s about what I average on 37s with a 2 inch lift. Sounds like similar driving conditions too

Adaptive cruise feels like it uses the brakes to me, either way it's not optimal for MPG.

Adaptive Cruise does use the brakes when needed.

Driving style is a huge variable, which explains the big differences in numbers here.
My 5th gen 4runner gets about 13-14 mpg. Thats a v6 with lift and 33s. My jtr with lift and 37s does 13mpg. That's mix city and highway numbers.

I never check my gas mileage anymore. If Iā€™m not towing anything then my truckā€™s computer says Iā€™m getting around 20 mpg more or less - depending on the highway to city ratio. I just figure it is what it is. A handful of mpg difference wonā€™t affect my annual cost of ownership all things considered.

Regardless, itā€™s way better than my old Land Rover. That got about 15 mph on a flat highway with a strong tailwind. Drive a 2003 Land Rover for a year and then get back into your JT and youā€™ll be singing the praises of your mileage.
