I know this topic has been addressed and best to death, but I’m hoping for some feedback.

I recently did something I thought I’d never do; I traded my built 5th gen 4Runner for a 2020 Mojave. The Mojave is in incredible condition, I scrutinized and looked over it in detail prior to purchasing.

Its setup on Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT’s (37x12.5x17) on Fuel wheels running what looks like a -18 offset. The truck drives amazing and I’m pretty happy about the switch.

All that being said I’m looking at a Regear (5:13) for here in the Rocky Mountains. I’ve gotten two quotes from very reputable Jeep shops in the area. Both were between 4-5K. This seemed incredibly high based on my research and I’m debating just moving to a 35 on the OE 4.10 gearing.

Thoughts?

Local shop here In Annapolis is $3600 parts and labor.

My buddy of mine just got his JTM done with 4.88s last week

I did mine myself and it took me three days. You don't want the cheapest bid in this instance. It's a lot of work, that you want done correctly and not quickly. Even with wholesale pricing I was still at $900 in parts before we picked up a wrench, so thousands of dollars for the whole deal isn't unreasonable.

That is a terrible price. If you are friendly with your local Jeep shop, half that. $3k would be high.

Interesting; all the replies are about the re-gear.. you mentioned dropping back to 35s..a set of new 35s will much less expense.. Did the PO put on a lift? Do your planned use off road call for 37s. There is value in selling the 37 take off too. My avatar has 35s and no lift; the wheels have 4.5" backspace. No recommendation here just questions.

I know of a shop here in Socal and all they do is regearing all day long. They charged me $1250 to do my Rubicon with 5.13s as part of a new years special. Other than that everyone else locally wanted $3k and above. Same shop also did my Tacoma and I have nothing but great things to say about them. They use revolution gears which is located out of the same part of California near Corona.

Get a lighter set of 37's and you will be happier with the 37's. My 37 12.5 17 Kanati' Trail Hogs only weigh 72lbs a piece, that's 9lbs lighter than those Baja Bosses are. You will feel a difference with even a 9lb lighter tire.

I'd say drop back to 35's but if your in love with the look of 37's then your gonna be kicking yourself for not figuring out a way to live with them. Just saying, coming from a guy who bought 35's for his why he was signing the deal and put 37's on it 11 months later and wouldn't think of going back to 35's
