Found a post this morning about a team that is going to be racing a new Jeep at King of the hammers (KOH). The Jeep looks a lot like a JT and KOH is only in a few week, starts on February 1st. Drivers are stated to be Casey Currie and Erik Miller. They also state that they will be entering in the Everyman Challenge. Having a quick look at the rules, there is a stock class that basically allows only safety modifications (roll cage, racing seats..). I Think this is exciting because it will give a pretty great indication of the capabilities and durability of the Gladiator. If you don't know, KOH is no joke. Its a mix of high speed desert racing and rock crawling in one race with 40% to 60% attrition rate.

Its is not uncommon for pre-production / non-salable vehicles to end up as race cars. Since most end up in line for the crusher, some teams (most of the time factory backed) can get their hands on a body or vehicle to campaign off of public roads. I'm guessing since Currie Enterprises does a lot with Jeeps, and probably good friends with a lot of Jeep management, there was a deal made with FCA / Jeep that they would get a vehicle to race.

Casey Currie has raced a Jeep J8 conversion in the past. I am guessing this is being referred to as a Jeep pickup for KOH, and not the Gladiator.

Casey Currie is probably the most well known offroad racer that is assoicated with the Jeep brand. Its no surprise that he would get a preproduction unit. I can't wait to see if built out.

It would be pretty awesome to see a full on Jeep trophy truck (or "trophy Jeep" as Casey calls his) or a Ultra 4 build but I think the timing is too short for that much fabrication and development for a vehicle of that caliber. 16 days until race weekend, I think you are about to see the first Gladiator race truck.

Also, Jeep will be there. They have a spot on the map in "Hammer Town". First ride and drives?

And then we get to enjoy some more footage before they're available. =)

Funny - just this past weekend I was watching the Dakar Rally race, and was dreaming about racing a Gladiator in it :jk:

Anyone watch the old Dakar rally with the British (or somewhere) announcer? That was so great. Hours of it. As of this news today I am officially a fan of CC the JT racer. We get to see a JT go airborne!!!! Climb hills. Run creeks. See what that bed does under duress. F-ing Great.

Okay, so what is the best way to watch footage of this race?
