Received delivery of our Gladiator at the end of May. Due to work commitments we haven't really been able to get it out on the road much. Two weeks ago we pulled it out of the garage to have dinner at friend's place. We heard a crunch outside and our friend said "someone just hit your jeep" I raced outside and this is what awaited us.

And here is what happened to the Lincoln MKX that hit us.

When the tow truck flipped the Lincoln back up on its wheels I had to move the Gladiator to avoid getting hit by it again. Would not move in drive or 4 High, would only move in 4 Low and even then not without a lot of screeching and grinding. Some from the drive train, some from the left rear tire that was jammed up against the shock.

From the point of impact to final resting spot, 10 1/2 feet. Estimator has so far indicated that two of the axles are shot, damage to the drive train, potential damage to the transmission, potential damage to the transfer case. Its been at the dealer's since 7/23. He can't even give us an estimate yet he can't get any numbers for the parts. We have no idea how long it will be out of action and there is still the potential that it will be totaled as the cost builds up. Our insurer assured us that they would only use new parts though!

The driver of the Lincoln is a 17 year old female, heading out to pick up her mother from work. At least she was wearing a seat belt as she came out of it pretty much unscathed. She only lived six doors down, just over the crest of a small hill, I have no idea how fast she was going but I'm guessing it had to be 40+ mph. To add insult to injury, uninsured driver. When the mom got there I over heard say that their insurance coverage had just lapsed. You have a 17 year old driver and you manage to let your insurance lapse?!

Maybe I'm dense, but how did the Lincoln end up on its back from that hit? Did it ride up your rear tire somehow and then flip?

That’s a nasty hit. It surely baffles the mind how things like this happen aside from smart phones.

I would demand (nicely) to be totaled out. I had a much smaller accident with way less damage in my 5 month old JK and had an amazing adjuster fight the case for me and had it totaled out.

Basically is the predicted price of the vehicle being sold at auction with a rebuilt title + the cost of repairs = >80% of check written to total out they can total the vehicle. In your care the rental car for The Who knows how long will really add to this.

Maybe someone in the insurance industry can chime in.

Agree. I would want it totaled and get a new one. Can't see how there is not at least $30,000 in parts and labor there. Glad noone was hurt.

That really sucks.. I'd also request the jeep to be totaled because NOW you will have a branded title, thereby reducing it's resale value..

Wow, sorry to hear the news. I hope for your sake they total it and you get a new Gladiator out of it.

if the insurance decides to pursue rebuilding the vehicle. you should definitely pursue a diminished value claim. possibly even mention that to the adjustor. essentially, you claim the vehicle lost resale value because of the accident (that was not your fault) allowing you to recover the difference between a car's pre-accident value and its value after repairs.

I have never done it personally, but my brother was considering on his silverado but ended up trading it instead. (he still lost money on the trade because of the accident)

I wonder if this is a young girl Colorado thing. Similar situation happened to my TJ. Young woman, driving too fast while texting, took out our mint condition Jeep.

Good news for you is you know where her parents live. Since she's 17 and driving her parents car means they are liable. Hopefully, you purchased uninsured driver coverage just in case and your insurance company will go after the parents.
