I don't have gorilla Glass but I've replaced two of the regular glasses and that's why I have a $50 deductible on comprehensive. I doubt the dealership is going to pony up on it. I suggest you lower your deductible and wait about a month and file a claim and delete this off the internet.

Man, I keep reading these posts on this issue and am soooo glad I didn't listen to my salesperson when she suggested getting it. It sounds good in theory, but apparently the glass is too brittle or something and cracks for no reason.
The outer layer is exactly like any other windshield, that's what gets the chips and cracks. From what I've seen, the only real advantage is light weight (by a lot) and resistance to the sort of impacts that injure the occupants.

This right here is the only advantage. It may be slightly stronger but I'd bet not worth the money your paying. I'll stick with my regular glass and keep comp deductible at a price I can live with. I learned from my JKU that these things like to crack

Does anyone recall the aftermarket laminate that Covers your windshield like a phone screen protector?

I just had gorilla glass installed after my OEM glass took a couple hard hits. I was told by Safelite that I could experience stress cracks from the installation and it would be covered under warranty. Might be something to look into with your dealer.

Sounds like this has been a recurring issue around here. Heading to my local dealership tomorrow to see what we can do. If they give me the finger then I guess I’ll look into the insurance route.

Exact same scenario here. Dealer replaced it free of charge.

There are several films out there that supposed to protect against rock chips, you can google windshield film to get a few that you can research to see what fits your needs best. Below is a recent test of a couple films from this YouTube channel.

I had seriously considered having a film put on and drove over to the exotic car shop installing it to enquire. They had a couple super cars out in the lot that had the film. I didn’t see any cracks but what i did see where hundreds of “air bubbles” where rocks hit and cut the surface of the film. So can you imagine driving into the sun and seeing all these little impact bubbles?? Would it be better than the sand blast look?? The cost of the lining is $400 cad. That’s 2 windshields at CalAlta in Calgary where I go to get mine replaced.

A CalAlta windshield installer tried the film for one year on his own vehicle and he told me in the winter months when the weather conditions were at a specific point, “freezing rain”, the film acts like an insulating barrier keeping the outside cold so the defrost or heat was not able to warm the glass and melt the ice. It was so dangerous, he removed the film at the shop and swore he’d never use it again.

I would zip the lips when talking to the dealer. Sometimes what you say can be used against you for example the heater and not a rock. I would say new windshield has a crack I noticed and please fix it.

Update:

After showing up to my local dealer Friday and requesting a warranty claim, I was told to come back Monday when Mopar was open. So, showed up Monday for my claim, quick and easy, and was informed today that FCA denied it due to "Outside Influence". Which basically means, It was most likely a rock that caused the damage, and because the crack is larger than 3 inches, it will most likely not be covered. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone said he would submit the case up to higher management, but I don't have much hope. Long story short, opt in for the windshield extended warranty when you buy your jeeps, Its worth it.

Also, in response to @HighNoon , This is the best avenue you can take when dealing with this issue. Had I played dumb and said it was cracked out of nowhere, I may have had a fighting chance with a defective windshield. Wish I read your post earlier. lol.

I am still perusing other avenues and will post up if I get a solution. Pretty frustrating thing to deal with on a new jeep... But hey, our windshields are Rock Velcro.

Any good glass guy can tell whether or not a crack originated via a "rock" as a rock hit creates a chip, no matter how tiny. And they'll look for it with a bright light, even a magnifier if necessary.
No chip, no rock impact. A rock won't cause a crack without a point of impact. It's not like a rock can flex the glass and make it crack, a rock causes a stress point from which the crack originates.
So if there's no point of impact, there was no rock.

Like I've said before, the warranty on these is totally worthless as they exclude normal circumstances and allow warranty on things that are so unlikely you'd go a lifetime and never encounter them.

I also have to wonder - what's up with the 3" measure? Why does it matter if a crack is 3" or shorter or longer and what's that got to do with anything? Cracks grow - and you may start with a 2" crack and by the time you get to the dealer it's now 4". I have watched it happen before my own eyes.
If a crack is caused by bad install or stress caused by a deformed frame - they'd cover it if it was 2.9" not not if it was longer?

Again, warranties on these things are just crazy. The things they cover are not going to happen, not in the natural world.

I swear, I think everyone is better off upping their insurance coverage, paying for a lower deductible, or a $0 deductible and screw the warranty.

(quotes again not working) So an extended warranty will cover glass breakage no matter the cause, but the normal won't?

Valid point. Just my knee jerk reaction I guess. I was raised to be very weary of warranties and never pay extra for them. This whole situation had me kind of scrambling. Im sure the fine print on the extended warranty is just the same...
